I recently cancelled my RB clip order after waiting 12 weeks, from a guy/shop represented well on this forum. I have since looked around locally, and found an "old friend" getting into the RB's. He has three GTR-32's sitting in japan, ready to come across. One of them will be mine. I will have my engine in about five weeks. No more waiting on blind promises for me. And I will have saved around $800, and I don't need to have it shipped, as I can mobilize my Suburbanand my car hauler to go pick it up (saving up to an additional $700).
I learned a few valuable lessons here. Buy from an established shop, with a storefront, business license, and references, and preferably within a reasonable driving distance from your home, so you can drop in to see how things are coming along. Buy from a shop that's in the yellow pages, and has a business phone line. Puchasing a clip from an inter-continental source (in other words, on the other side of the country), sight unseen, with 100% down is completely insane! People, these "shops" don't have enough money to buy the clips themselves and bring them over to sell on American soil. They are using YOUR MONEY to purchase the clip (and making 50-70% while they're at it). If you really want to know what an RB20, RB25, or RB25 clip costs, take the current going rates, and divide them in half.
It's a complete racket, I tell you. I can't believe how many people pay 100% up front, without any knowledge of the condition of the clip, it's mileage, compression, anything. It's time to start being wise consumers here and DEMAND a better way to buy JDM clips!
