I drove thru about 1 foot or so of water. the car 1999 Q45t conked out a couple of lengthes later. Water had gotten into the airfilter . replaced soggy airfilter which I had in trunck. Started up but today she went about 3 miles and started to miss. Then she just won't stay started. I looked at all fuses. The battery is strong. It has set in the dry for a day.Any help?

Ingesting water through the throttle body (wet air filter) is just about as bad a blowing an engine. You probably have a bent valve or two and will need about $3,000 worth of valve & head work. If you are lucky.....it is just an electrical thing that you will need to sort out which will be a real pain in the butt.

why did you have to drive through water that deep? Are you mental, sorry for being rude, to do such things on any road car!If you didn't bend any rods or valves in the engine you'd be so lucky!I feel sorry for you!I've rebuilt Jeep engines with bent rods and such caused by water ingesting.Change motor OIL ASAP check ALL fluids. and hope nothing terrible happened!Cheers!

For the three miles that it ran... how did it run? Bad missing (shaking, etc?) or OK? My guess is that if you didn't hydrolock the engine, you're probably looking at a MAF issue... it's next in line to be water damaged after the filter.

Yes, in a Hummer 1.

Check your connections on your intake pre MAF. Must be something loose or not connected. Why one would do this is beyond me.

I doubt he did it on purpose. Ever seen a midwest thunderstorm? Its enough to scare Indians who survived monsoons.

Thank you for the thoughts. It didn't look like anything other than a puddle. Plus, I am probably overstating a foot of water. Within 5 minutes the water had cleared. Maybe 8 inches?

I don't think it was hydrolock in that the car was fine for three miles. No missing etc. I even ran the rpm up when I got home to see if it would miss or whatever. I even started it this am and drove it about a block before it started it's dying. I am confident that it is electrical based. I even looked up the intake tube nearest the manifold to see if it was wet, nada. I'll keep the board informed. It is at the dealership now.

MAF at $500. Ouch. I should have cleaned it but it's got 62000 on it so poof goes the wallet. Everything is good to go.

Anyone ever remapp the ECM? I did it on my 911/996 Gave it the Euro mapping.
