So, I'm looking at getting a CA18DET to put in my 1st Gen. RX-7 and was wondering if anyone had done business with either Osaka JDM Motors or J-Spec Auto Sports

The motor from Osaka including shipping is $1250 (which seems like a great deal if they are a respectable company. On the other hand I could drive to J-Spec Auto Motors in Ashland, VA and pick up the motor for $1295 (+ rough $40 for gas there and back) if they are a better company with better engines.

Any ideas or other more reputable importers with CA18DET's in stock?

start checking with BBB (better business bureau) for any possible negative input from past costumers... and online reviews

I have heard some bad stuff out of osaka couple of freinds got some junked up motors. I think they are out of canada. I got mine from JHOT in Atlanta. Went and picked up, very nice people. They even let me walk around the shop and look at all the crazy jdm stuff. I suggest you freshen it up no matter where you get it, the ca's are kinda old.

Good Luck

Thanks beans...it seems that JHot doesn't have any at the moment. Any other recommended importers?

Also, it will be fully rebuilt, but not "built." Probably new main and rod bearings, water and oil pump, timing belt and pulley, head gasket, valve adjust and maybe a valve job, etc etc. Don't plan on a lot of hp (the stock 12a rotary only has 100hp...so 200-225hp would be fine with me in the little 2300 lb car). I just want something that is fun, unique, not expensive, and gets better gas mileage than a carbureted rotary (which is really about anything). I am just hoping that the cylinder walls are in good shape so that I don't need the thing bored..just a new hone and some new piston rings would be my goal.

I will have to call Jarco because their online inventory isn't working, but in the mean time I found another importer, JapaneseEngineImport.com who is in Sterling, VA (about 5 hrs north of here...so about $65 in gas round trip). They have them for $1200 and I found another thread on nicoclub recommending them. Anyone got a CA from them?

my friend got one from them and it didnt have any compression in cylinder 3 and 4 but they have a one month warranty but he didnt wanna hassle them about it but other than that they are pretty cool I picked up some coilovers from them and they are pretty good. Oh and I also get spare parts from them too just make sure you do a compression test.

Which "them" are you referring to, JapaneseEngineImport.com?

So I just got off the phone with Jarco...they apparently don't import engines from japan anymore. So Jarco is a no go, and I also called JHot. A) they don't have any nissan motors right now and B) they closed their Georgia store last year and are 100% out of Texas now. I would really rather not deal with someone who isn't reputable.

Wow...3 posts by me in a row :).

Anyway, I have found lots of rave reviews for Japanese Engine Imports out of Sterling, VA. I'm going to give them (Phil) a call on monday to see the situation with their CA18DET motors. They seem the most reputable and I can visit their shop before purchasing anything. Then hopefully I can get as much out of my spare 13B-REW parts as I think I can and I will have a motor waiting for my FB.

Jarco is no longer selling engines or imported parts as far as I know

i got my cadet from j hot. excellent condition other than a smokey turbo. it was super clean and low miles, (75K), with a virgin harness and all the intercooler piping, driveshafts, and every little nick nack. i like the fact that j hot gives you the actual mileage of the engine instead of the typical 25k to 45k bull s***. i waited a long time to specifically get a cadet from these guys.

when i was in the market for my cadet, i did a lot of research and most of it was negative towards osaka (ocaca), but i do not have first hand knowledge of this, just internet talk.
