Okay, test drove Genesis Coupe 3.8 Track 6-speed AT today. Here were my impressions:
Looks: As good if not better than G37 coupe. Not better than G37 convertible. The convertible is better looking than the coupe (IMHO) and I confirmed that on the Infinity lot today. The Genesis is borderline too flamboyant/ricey, but still eye candy with those 19" wheels.
Interior: I was ready for the cheap interior, but frankly it was a little worse than I expected. There are virtually no "soft touch" surfaces aside from the leather seats and the plastic is very cheap feeling. The interior design/layout though is decent, simple yet stylish. The seats are great. The leather feels of good quality and I like them better than the seats in the BMW. But not better than the Infinity or my Volvo (no one beats Volvo on comfort of seats - at least in all the cars I've compared to.) The back seat headroom is a joke. It isn't suitable for anyone over 5' 9" tall where as the Infinity is just tall enough for me in back and I'm 5' 11". The trunk on the Genesis is even smaller than the Infinity and no fold down back seats.
The Drive: The Drive is exemplary. The steering feel is better than the BMW. Brake feel is excellent. Handles like it is on rails. But the track spec setup is a bit too harsh for a daily drive in my opinion. If I wanted a really sporty car for cheap though, I'd opt for this over the WRX STI if AWD wasn't important. The suspension and road feel was so much better than the STI, but a lot of that can be personal preference. The 6-speed auto was neither really good or bad, pretty average to above average for that price point.
For a sports coupe, it IS a lot for the money especially for the handling. It's a head turner even moreso than the Infinity especially with those 19" wheels, BUT, the non-fold down backseat made for midgets and tiny trunk, even for a coupe, were the deal breaker for me. I could live with the interior fit and finish considering all the money saved, this car might as well be a 2-seater as the backseats and trunk are just too unpractical, even for a coupe.
For someone who wants a brand new sport coupe with a budget of $30K, it's a winner - can't think of anything that beats it at that price. But if you've got more to spend, the Infinity is well worth the extra money. I know, surprise surprise.
