I've heard cleaning the MAF can help improve fuel efficiency and increase HP. Has anyone cleaned it before? And what did you use to clean it?

ya i cleaned the MAF in all my trucks, i use MAF cleaner (available in an aerosol can at any auto parts store)

you can also use electrical contact cleaner....

be careful not to touch the little wires that are the sensor... and be careful not to drop it if you remove it.... if youre lazy you can take the intake tube off the airbox and clean it without removing the sensor, just spray it through the intake tube....

I'm pretty sure I'm due for a new maf soon. I took my intake filter out to replace it when I bought the car two months ago, it looked as if the previous owner sucked in a bird, went through the intake filter and got stuck in the maf sensor. it's all rusted, bent combs. I'm surprised I'm not throwing a code or that it's not running funny because of that. But as the other guys had stated, it's super easy to clean and can only help, but increasing hp after cleaning it is probably a myth.

actually my buddy has a busted MAF sensor in his 4runner (common problem in those) and it runs messed up.... the air fuel ratio is off.... so when you floor the throttle wide open, the truck actually slows down.... its fastest at 70% throttle.... so better believe that a dirty or busted MAf can rob you of power.... i see it every day!!
