Man that piping is the best part! What do they mean by 'back filling with argon'?

I think it is to smooth out the welds on the inside.

Yeah I read that part, and I know the argon is used to keep oxygen away from the metals while welding - just never heard of the term 'back-fill', like they pumped argon inside the pipe while welding also?

Like they say, it's all in the tune... I wonder if they're going to start offering pre-canned/off-the-shelf tunes...

damn those welds like look it was done by robots, its sooo damn smooth. also its crazy that he had his T04B being oil and water cooled. doesn't that mean its a ball bearing turbo? i never knew they made ball bearing T04B's.

I've always thought PDM was pretty squared-away. I wish they were a sponsor.

I have no clue...I'd hope so though.

Since the days I first started doing business with them well over 3 years ago they've expanded QUITE a bit and have offered a lot more stuff for the 240sx...they were originally the ONLY company who offered aftermarket cams; now they offer billet turbo and N/A camshaft applications, etc. They're definitely growing, but this is their first tinkering with the turbo 240 (although not with t/c cars)...

The reason I respect Don so much is that he's an actual race car driver, and a damn good one at that. And by race car, I don't meana drag race car that can't even be driven off the track, because I firmly believe that's the lowest form of racing there is...I mean road-course and auto-x.

Anyway, you could definitely give 'em a call and ask them that; they've always been very nice and helpful in answering questiions.

What they are talking about with the back gas filling is somthing that is commonly reffered to as back gas purging. When you weld you create an electric arc between the two pieces of metal and then fill that in with the wire or rod. In order to prevent metal splatter, burning, and overall produce a cleaner weld you need to shield the weld from the atmosphere by blowing an inert gas on the weld. This is usually a CO2, Argon, or Nitrogen gas or a mix of two or more of them. When you back gas purge you also flow the inert gas through the piping you are welding to ensure that the weld stays clean and pretty on the inside of the piping too. You just need to tape the ends off on the piping and poke a hole in each side the air goes in one side and flows out the other side.
