anyone build engines? i have a quick question

hey so im rebuilding an engine, and i am installing new piston/wrist pin bushings in the rods. the new piston/wrist pins dont seem to fit though. the bushing is .001" smaller than the pin. can i just take some sand paper on a drum and make it a tad bigger? and how much of a gap do i want between the pin and the bearing for oil to get in? this is on a 22re btw (i know i know its not a 240, but i need help and it will extend my knowledge for when i build my ka)
