I am just doing a bit of research. Eventhough Nissan Canada does not have a fix yet, I am eligible for a replacement transmission. My service manager( who I have known for a long time and trust) said he would prefer if I wait as there is no guarantee the new one will not develop a rattle. So here is my question: How many of you have an AWD without the rattle and how many km/miles do you have on your Rogue. The rattle does not really start to become noticeable after around 3000km.

Hey Paul, there are a bunch of "non-rattle" AWD reports in this thread, along with mileage.

I would say if you have the chance for a new transmission without having to fight for it DO IT.

Just look at all the problems Goblin has had trying to get a new transmission, even with the noise completely obvious, he is still getting denied.

If you have the free chance to get a transmission and they are willing to do it, then by all means take the oppurtunity and do it, quickly before they change their mind.

...well, one thing is for sure....you can't go by that online survey to determine the prevalence of the transmission rattle.....its close to a 50%ratio which just cannot be correct. That would indicate 25,000 of the 50,000 give or take, that were sold, would have the problem.....and wewould damn sure know if it was that bad. That would be a MAJORrecall with major news coverage.

Anyway, I have 5,000 miles on mine....and still NO rattle....

I agree on the survey, does not tell the whole story. Usually you only hear the negative comments, so I would like to be a bit more informed.Although I have been vocal about this issue, I also dont want to ruin my good relationship with the service manager and would be prepared to give it a few more months. Contrary to some other comments, at least here in Canada no reported failures yet.I asked my service manager how many Rogues they sold that dont have the rattle, which may make my decision a bit easier.

So far, so good. Almost 13,000 miles, no funny noises and no funny shifting. I hope that continues on my SL AWD with CVT.

No rattle on our AWD now with almost 14,000 miles. The doors sound loose, as if the cheap rubber seals don't compress enough to keep them tight, but that would by my only complaint. Rattle free, and hope to stay that way. Perhaps those with the rattle should compare manufacture dates, perhaps this is a bad batch of trannys installed?

Hey all of you "NON rattle" owners, I just wanted to clarify something: Even though you don't have the crazy loud rattle problem, do you notice what I call "normal" CVT noises, in the form of an extremely brief subtle rattle noise, at low speeds and usually when declerating. This appears to be a normal thing associated with CVT transmission's, and I've documented it to some degree in another post, but I wanted to specifically ask you happy owners if you've ever noticed this? I'm becoming convinced that it is normal, but I'm not totally there yet - the more owners that I hear from that hear this, the more re-assured I'll be. It is a very brief noise, but it still makes me nervous occaisionally when I have the radio turned off and listen carefully for it in parking lots. Thanks.

Kerrton,

My only comment is: If that faint rattle is NORMAL, why didn't we hear it in the first 1500 miles?

It seems like all Rogues should be making that sound.

In my previous forum no normal cvt noises, someone who is familiar with CVT transmission's stated that this is normal and will start occuring after the transmission is broken in.

And in response to "why isn't this noticeable on all Rogues?", that is exactly what I'm asking - is this a normal sound that everyone has with their vehicle.

Its not a normal sound. Our transmission was replaced. "failure per techline". No problems since. I think it might have been a few of the first cars or transmissions. Cars great now.

My Rogue SL AWD is now past 19,000 miles and my dad's Rogue S AWD is past 7,000 miles, and neither vehicle makes any noises that my 2007 Altima 2.5S did not. Yes, there are some odd noises I can definitely associate to Jatco's CVTs on these cars, but they are not unique to the Rogue, as far as I'm concerned. Our '07 Altima 2.5S had the same engine and Jatco CVT unit as both our Rogues, and the only difference is the AWD transfer case portion. As I said, no noises the Rogues make that the Altima did not.

My CVT was replaced about 2 weeks ago. The Master Tech who did the job was instructed by Nissan to report what he found when he took the CVT apart. To quote the workorder copy that I received... "metal shards in casing, as big as 2mm." If you can get a new CVT, do it! I was told to keep an ear on it because the warranty is until 59,999. They will fix it up til then, and if it is replaced w/in 12,000 of the expiration, they replacement will hold a 12 mo/12,000 warranty.

Hey Ed, so exactly what noises does your CVT make, that you consider normal? Is it the same very brief rattle at very slow speeds, usually when declerating that I've described above? If so, you said your Altima made these subtle noises too, and it never got any worse over time? Any description of "normal" CVT noises is much appreciated, as I'm still trying to figure out if I've got a problem or if things are just running normally. Thanks a lot in advance.

Although my Rogue is still fairly new, I have not had any problems.

Hey Paul, do you live in the west end just off Lessard Road?

I just got a call from the Nissan dealership and they said that Nissan Canada has identified my car as a faulty transmission and a new one is on the way.

I reported it to them 6 - 8 months ago.
