i can easily say that ive been in water that deep (as the first vid) but without the heavy flow. As long as you drive through it quickly and get out of there, the water does not get in the interior. The door seals stop it. But if he was to stop and chill in the middle for a few minutes then i imagine water would start getting in.
The intake opening faces up and its behind/under the left headlight. Then its a resonator tube which is loosely (not air tight) connected to the filter box that also has a few small holes in it. If you DO get water in the intake, there is several spots for air to still get in (at the connectiion from the lower resonator to the air filter box is the major one) and to let water out. You really gotta sink the front left corner to at least mid headlight and floor the gas pedal at the same time to hydrolock it.
Haha, I just went on youtube and searched for 'qx4 offroad'.
Thanks for the info, good to know!
I went off-roading earlier today (first time! ) . It was raining and it had been raining off and on before that, and last night we had a big storm, so there was LOT of water. I know there were at least a few times the water got up to my door and I was wondering how I none got in. Since I cut the bottoms off the resonator, would I have an increased risk of hydrolock? I KNOW there were quite a few times where the water got up to the resonator.BTW, my Q is totally stock.
Kinda leads me to my next question. After about half way through my adventure, my service engine soon light comes on. My Q rides fine and idles fine though. It's not making any abnormal noises, no abnormal smells. Performs like usual. Having said all that, and taking into account what I said above, what could it be? My friend was saying that maybe some water got sucked up. Would that cause the SES light?
Pictures coming soon!!
