I need some info from the FSM on the front strut removal. If anybody can help me, please do so.

It is a 1993 J30, with a little under 100,000 miles.

The strut boots are shot, but the struts seem to be fine. I want to remove the boots, but don't see a way to remove the struts from the front spindles. The normal bolts are not there. It appears the strut is pressed into the spindle. I am sure there is a trick to it, but I am not seeing it.

Thanks for the help!

Thats alot of work to replace the boots on some used shocks. I would just remove the boot and leave them until they become worn, then replace the entire assembly.

Well, the bump stops are loose on the shaft, and the shaft is sexposed to dirt and grit. I think the struts would last another 50 to 100K, if it had new boots. The new bump stops should help keep the car from bottoming out, and breaking something.

I agree, it is a lot of work, but still jsut an hour or so.

with 100k, chances are your srtus are far from "ok" at this point anyways dude.

new boots wont lengethn their life by anything at this point. suck it up and replace the entire unit, boot and all.

Jeff,

I am looking into doing a strut replacement on all 4 corners. I see by this post you were looking into strut removal 6 months ago. Any special techniques I should know? I have done strut/coilovers on my miata about 3 years ago, but every car is different.

Thanks,-RobBirmingham, AL.
