I've been playing with DIY consult stuff lately and learning a lot. Just wondering if there were any other electronics types on here.

Most of the software out there is intended for KA, SR and VQ engines, but they work great for datalogging and active tests.

Unfortunately none support the Q's active suspension, climate control or seat memory systems. That functionality could be added easily enough but I'm no programmer.

Never tried it... can you run a power balance test and monitor ECU inputs (like temperature)?

Thanks,

Heath

MicrosoftQ45 was working on a software interface, presuming he has the hardware in hand.

You can do most of the active tests (power balance, idle) with the software available.

The BCM can be accessed through it with the right software, but none of the currently available packages has this functionality.

I just had a bunch of bare PCBs made for Consult interfaces. PM me if you want one at cost.

It's easy stuff but it would take me days and days.

Just to let everyone know, I ordered one of these kits today... now I'll need to buy a cable, and a serial to USB adaptor. Robert checked and with one of the software packages I should be able to do a power balance test... I'll keep everyone updated. If this works out I think it'll be the biggest thing to hit the Q community in a while!

Please Please Please keep us posted. I'd love to be able to just see the basic data and run a few tests.

I didn't think the aftermarket software supported the V8, so I'd love to be wrong on this one.

Some back-channel discussions with Robert indicate that it works. He has successfully completed a power-balance test with one software package. I think my kit was shipped Wednesday or Thursday - but actually getting it done (and getting the other parts together) will probably take a couple of months. I'm trying to get our new house renovated and move in before the new inlaws come for Christmas...

Tile, Paint, Light Fixtures, sinks, appliance... all in a month... yeah right...

Actually that plan may be changing! After South Carolina's unexpected win over Tennessee on Saturday - we only need one more win to be bowl eligible... if Arkansas goes well this weekend we may be traveling during the holiday season!

The choice of inlaws vs. bowl game is pretty obvious to me... hope she feels the same!

Update:

I received the board and parts yesterday... put it together in about two or three hours. Here's the finished product.

Now I'm waiting for the cable from Atek. It's supposed to arrive on Monday.

Looks like ya'll got that win!

Bama really sucked against Miss. State, and if this keeps up, LSU and Auburn will have easy games...Roll Tide anyway!

Indeed we did! I hope this weekend's matchup against UF won't be too bad.

As far as the Consult - I got the cable and put it together. Then discovered that I reversed the pins left to right. If anyone does this in the future, the Atek instructions with the connector, and Calum's schematic show pins 1-14 exactly backwards. Calum's schematic is showing the pin outputs on the Consult connector on the car. Atek's diagram shows the pins looking into the Atek connector. So Atek's pin 1 = Calum's pin 8.

Anyhow, I still can't get it to work. At this point I don't know if it's the boat anchor P1 with Win95 that I'm trying to use as a "garage computer" since my laptop is in the shop - or the board. I'm waiting for the case to arrive from Mouser today so that I'll know how to position the LEDs on the board. Hopefully they'll help me diagnose this...

I bought the "kit" from Robert. As an update - I couldn't get it to work properly. Robert has been kind enough to ship a spare known-good board to me so that we can isolate it down to either my board or cable. I was able to get it to recognize the ECU and do a couple of things using Nissan ScanTech software, but it was very intermittant.

Hopefully I'll know more by the end of the week!

Including me! I had to check ESPN this morning to make sure it wasn't a dream! My throat is still sore from that game... now on to Clemson - who of course can't just roll over and should be nicely pumped up after their victory over FSU.

An update... the board Robert sent gave me the same results. Must be something with my cable, but I can't figure it out. I'm going to try to ship everything to him to see if he can figure it out...

You can get the cable here:

http://store.yahoo.com/atek/audica.html

Look for Nissan 14-pin pigtail cable.

Honestly I'm not sure on that one... I have a '97 truck that has two diagnostic connectors... a grey one just like the 90Qs (that's the Consult connector) and the white OBDII connector. When I was using my board (but not really getting anything to work right) I could get one software package to recognize the ECU, but that's about it... Hopefully someone else will chime in on this.
