Are you thinking of painting the entire thing or just the top half? My thoughts on painting the whole thing would be

1) Waste of a lot of $$ if it is painted professionally. They'd sand blast it and paint it for around $500 I would imagine. My valve covers alone were $135.2) Would probably get scratched all to hell trying to reinstall the thing while the motor is in the car. Trust me, I have removed mine twice while in the car and it's not the funnest or easiest thing you can do. 3) If you were dead set on painting it yourself, degrease the parts real good, then spray away with some high temp engine paint and you should be good to go.

I'd say get out a grinding wheel and polish the heck out of it. I've seen a few polished up and they look hot!

i would not advise painting the valve covers. i had mine off and sandblasted them, and the powder coating machine broke before I got to them. i was done with my intake and half done with i/c piping. so hot side i/c is painted along with the vlave covers. two years later it looks like a$$. detracts from my kick a$$ ride. powdercoat or polish, painting has no place under the hood. my $.02

If you decide to paint go with an epoxy paint. It will stand up to oils and harsh chemicals...
