I want to intall a hydrogen generator on my Versa and have been looking for some room under the hood to mount it

Today I took off the plastic air intake system and found the room..but here's the question, what is the purpose of that big plastic housing in front of the battery? It hooks into the air intake from the side, but for the life of me I can't figure out what good it does.

There are no electical or hose connections on it and it occupies the perfect spot to turn my V into a Hybrid.

If I take it out, it leaves enough room for the HHO Generator and a Bubbler.

Before I answer this question I must pose another... Why would you need a hydrogen generator?

Answer: It's to silence the car's air intake. Feel free to remove it.

Here's the short answer to your question.....

"The idea behind onboard hydrogen generators for cars and trucks is that they use electricity provided by the car to electrolyze a small amount of water and inject the resulting hydrogen and oxygen gases into the vehicle's intake system. The hydrogen and oxygen mix with the fuel in the cylinders, help the gasoline or diesel fuel to burn more efficiently, increase power, mpg's and decrease pollutants coming out the tailpipe."

Didn't I see this on Mythbusters and they busted it?

A local radio show had a garage try one out on an Accord, it got worst gas mileage with it installed.

You buy a kit or you buy plans to build one of these things, what you do is you put electrodes in the water, put the water in here and the electrodes separate out hydrogen from the water and that's supposed to propel your car. Okay, you can run a car on hydrogen, but you're not out of this little bit of water. See, the reality of it is, in order to have enough hydrogen to run your car the same distance that you would on 15 gallons of gas, you would have to have 45,000 gallons of hydrogen, so consider towing 6 or so of those big gasoline tankers behind your car to have enough room to store that hydrogen gas.

For some of the larger units being built for heavy trucks and motor homes,, they can cost hundreds of dollars, but for a small 4 cyl engine like the Versa, you can put a system together for about 100 bucks.

As for Mythbusters, they were trying to build a system that ran a large V-8 entirely on HHO....they did manage to blow it up in the end to create a little drama, but that's not the idea for just improving mpg's.

I have built a few generators now from various items around the house, and they do produce lots of HHO (hydroxy) I am posting a photo of my favorite, this one is built out of 2 stainless steel spatulas from my wifes kitchen drawer. and a link to lots of info if anyone is interested in learning about it.

Basic Physics.....you can not get more energy out of a system than what you put in. Its going to use more energy to drive the hydrogen generator. The amount of energy made by the H2 generator will not overcome this. Why not run a car that uses a battery to make H2 by electrolysis and then use an alternator off this H2 engine to charge the battery and continually use H2 to run an engine and charge the battery?? This can not be done according to the laws of modern physics. If a person could make an engine that makes more energy than is put into the system, this person would be very rich.

After reading various posts about some aftermarket products for the Versa and other cars, I would recommend that anyone wanting to spend money on these seriously consider if they actually do what they claim.

Like the many "natural" products for hair growth, male enhancement and various other claims, buyer beware.

Just because it's for sale doesn't mean it works. If it's too good to be true, it probably is. I would think carefully before buying some of these automotive aftermarket products.

Thanks CodeRed..I did, and took it out for a test run to see if the Versa now made some strange sounds like a tuba player with gas, or a Siamese Cat in Heat..or is it a Tuba Player in Heat and a Siamese cat with gas

I can never remember.

I think it is a bit more 'ballsy' sounding on acceleration, but once up to speed it sounds the same...quiet and refined.

Question answered, mystery solved, thanks C R.

Partial pseudoscience. IF this did work as described, I'd be very concerned about the hydrogen leading to detonation. Hydrogen's not exactly super-stable, and under compression ignites easily. Mixing it with your AFM could easily lead to knock which could have numerous adverse side effects, not the least of which being DECREASED FUEL ECONOMY.

Yet again I pose the question: if these devices really worked, don't you think auto manufacturers, who are DESPERATE to increase fuel economy by any margin to help sales and meet idiotic CAFE standards, would engineer them into their vehicles from the factory?

The short answer to your question is...probably not.

OK then, here's the long version...It seems that anytime anyone came up with a real good idea for patenting anything that increased mpgs or cleaned up the polution that internal combustion engines naturally produce, they would be met with shady people representing everthing from Govt. to Oil companies, and the Auto Industry itself. Here's a brief example...

George Arlington Moore: Carburetion

The most productive in the field of carburetion was George Arlington Moore. Out of 17000 patents, 250 of them were related to carburetion. As far back as the mid 1920's, Moore was capable of virtually eliminating carbon monoxide pollution with his carburetors. People in the automotive field considered Moore to be a genius and couldn't understand why the automobile industry ignored his inventions.

And so to make long story longer, here's a lot of reading on dozens of other fuel saving inventiions that lead to dead ends..some literally.

If you discount 50% of the info as B/S...that still leaves a lot of suspicious stories that can't be discounted.
