I'm wanting to do this, but let me caution, this is most likely a job for people trained in your vehicle (read as certified Nissan repair people) because if they screw it up, they have to fix it. I want my backlighting to be blue ...

it'll be costly, but I think it'll be worth it!!

good luck with yours!

unless you have done this yourself, i would not suggest doing it. One of the memebr has had problem. i think it was jemdawg? But i would rather wait till a V hits a junkyard pull out the cluster and have a look at it before you mess yours up.

Yes it was Jemdawg that had the issue. After tinkering, none of the gauges worked properly. He convinced the service guys that the gauges just fell dead and they replaced it for him. I wouldn't suggest popping it out unless you really know what you're doing.

Next time be sure of who did what instead of opening your mouth and blaming somebody for something they didn't do.

He didn't really open his mouth, unless he reads what he types alound as he types it, which is just plain weird. I'm just sayin'......

"I believe it was Clipsed"

he said, "i Believe" meaning he wasnt too sure. i dont think he was blaming anyone. we all knew someone had mess up their cluster, so it not suggest to change it anytime soon. I have a buddy that does LED cluster for a living, so as soon as i get a spare, i am taking it to him to check it out if it is do able.

I dont care if he said I believe. I know exactly why he pointed his finger at me. Besides if I wanted to do it, I would, as I know what I am doing, but I have other projects going on.

It can't be done without breaking the needles, they won't line up properly if you can get them off. Tugging on them makes them fall loose. Without extracting the needles, you cannot get to the LEDs unless you divise a plan to cut the sheet under the needles and reglue it without leaving an obvious seam. They easiest thing to do is putting sheets of dyed plastic under the numbers and markers, otherwise don't bother, it isn't worth the trouble.

OMG Clipsed. He was NOT attacking you. He made an erroneous statement of belief. You really need to do two things.

1) Stop overreacting to everything.

2) Stop making drama queen statements like the one quoted above that are actually MORE ludicrous than the statement you are complaining about.

If you can't handle smack... even accidental smack... get off the internet.

I second that. He said "I believe," not "I believe that (insert name-calling term here) kid Clipsed did it." Get over it, and don't assume that he meant anything by it. You're not overreacting, you're reacting to nothing. We could do without people whining about being criticized when they aren't even being criticized. Please try to act as mature as you can, and one way to do this is to think before you decide to "flip out" on me for saying it how it is.

Holy christ... RELAX! I remember someone had tried to change the LEDs in his/her cluster, I thought it was you, I was NOT attacking you, I never said it was you, I just said I "thought" it was you. Turns out, it was Jemdawg.

You know exactly why I'm attacking you? This ought to be good! I was NEVER attacking you. I think highly of you (you take the initiative to turn your car into exactly what you want, and it takes some serious guts to modify a brand-new car). You are obviously a skilled craftsman who takes pride in his automobile (whether anyone else likes it or not, it doesn't matter).

Now, let's move on. Yes, I have had to yank needles off clusters before (had to build a new cluster for my GTI from three other units). First and foremost, when you remove the needles, you will never get them back on in th correct position. This is a good time to take advantage of those "you're speeding this much..." signs. I had to partially assemble the cluster and pull into a parking lot to make adjustments until the speedo was dead-accurate.

my appologizes, I was in a heck of a bad mood early this morning, and read it as if you were saying "Clipsed did it, and like an idiot, he destroyed his cluster." Even though that wasn't what was said, my bad mood made me interperit a little differently. Things have not been going so well for me lately, and my mom was in the hospital for 4 days after going to emergency thinking she was having a heart attack, and was released yesterday. I am in a very nervous state of mind right now with many things going on, and have been taking many things negatively for the past few days.

Once again I appoligize to everyone on the board, especially BBISHOPPCM. Hopefully I was not too out of line, and did not offend anybody.

If anyone really wants to take a stab at doing this, I'll write up a brief guide on how to get it out. I just want to make sure it goes to use and I don't waste my time, as I barely have time as it is with three jobs and finals/essays to do. I couldn't get it to work the way I've always known it to be done (the two spoon method to remove the needles). The needles went dead, there was no way to readjust them. This is just to forewarn all of you who attempt this; the needles seem more fragile than others. I'm sure if you have experience in this, you can do it. Please make a detailed write-up if there is any success, so I can see how it is done, as I still do want to do this.

Thanks, I am still hoping the same thing, as she needs to go in for multiple tests still, as they still have not found out what happened. But over the 4 days she needed four bags of blood which really helped her out.

As for the gauge cluster, I will be having a go at it after I finish my HIDs. But I will not be doing it the normal way, I will be doing it differently, and either 2 or 3 changable colors. But that is later on, as money is next to none! But I am sure I could get it out on my own.

Where to begin...

I do want to see a write up... I really don't think that I'll do this by myself, but I'd still like to see one anyway (maybe Stevie will let me help replace the bulbs and such.)

p.s.: Wayne, your mom is in my thoughts/prayers. ... and how are the HIDs going?

Sorry to hear about the problems your mom is having, that is most definitely a stresser. Take time to decompress if you need to. Everything else in your life should be secondary to your (and your family's) health.

Unfortunately they aren't bulbs, not the simple twist on and off bulbs that they used to use. They are hard to get to solder on LEDs.

I understand that they are LEDs... But I've thought of something else... would it be possible to change the LEDs in the stereo too? (I must be one of like eight people who actually like the stock radio...)

Hey thanks everyone, yea she is ok, fine enough to get pissed off at me and tell me things which is a good sign but it was really nasty at first, but I am just glad she is safe at home now, and hopefully the tests she is going to take will all come back ok.

This is very true Marleyfan, for the past couple years I have been tight on money everytime her b-day and mothersday comes around for some weird reason, and never even managed to get her a card atleast, but this year I did, went shopping last night and got her a lil something and a very well said card.

As for the HID's, they are not too hot, thank goodness I bought an extra SET of headlights, and an extra drivers side, as I have been hacking that thing up to get the friggin lense off for days now, and Nissan sealed these mother lovers good as hell!!! I am pretty pissed off, because I have tried everything, and the damn thing is cut up, and melted partly from trying some of the things I have, but there has to be some way, and I will figure it out, it is only a matter of time. Other than that I have mostly all of the components, missing only a few items which will cost me about $300-$400.

When I tackle this project, I will not touch the stock LEDs, instead I will tap into the stock power for the display, and create a new board for the LEDs with very bright pirahna superflux LEDs. A lot bigger AND brighter. I will also change the ones on the door and in the climate controls, but that is for another day.

Yes it is possible to change the LEDs in the stereo also, it would just be a real ***** and a PITA!

If you guys really want to do this, but have it done professionally, you could give these guys a call at ledmods.net, they do all that.

I'm prepared to swap the LED's, I've worked with this kind many times before and know how to do it well. If someone figures out a safe way to remove the needles, then I'll give it another shot.

I would rather keep them in and not touch them. That way if for any reason I need to return it to stock, it is a simple open up desolder + and - wire, pull my board, and put it back together.

Most needles are very easy, just have to know the tricks to them and how to adjust them once put the cluster back together.

Scion Life wrote:#1: BUYER BEWARE!!! LEDMODS.net SHADY BUSINESS Author: BlackRose617 , South Boston MAPostPosted: 1/25/07 8:35PM —Hey guys. I recently did business with Paul Salmas at LEDMODS.net. I paid him to change to leds on my gauges and HVAC. I sent them out and about a week later I got them back. I was pumped cuz I live in MA and its like 20 degrees out everday right now and I was driving around without heat or defrosters. I put everything back in the car and saw that the HVAC wasnt lighting up at all and 2 gauges in the cluster werent either. I emailed Paul and he said I could email them back and he would pay for standard shipping both ways or I could pay for overnight shipping one way. I opted for the overnight cuz i really needed the gauges. I sent them out last Wednesday and according to the USPS he signed for it the next day. Well Monday came this week and I still didnt have the gauges so i emailed him but got no response. Since then Ive emailed him about 6 more times on that email account and didnt get any response. I PMed him here 2 days ago cuz he doesnt know me on here and asked him something simple like what was his email address. He responded right away so I PMed him back saying its Tim where are my gauges and why arent you emailing me back. Wouldnt ya know he didnt respond back at all. I just got through trying to locate his number through 411 and the whitepages but his address isnt listed apparently. I also just filed a claim on Paypal. I REALLY need my gauges. I dont know how much gas I have each day and biggest of all I have no heat and my windows fog up big time making it really hard to drive obvly. If anyone here knows Paul or has done business with him before and can help me out I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys.
hmmm.... There's a guy on that forum that I've heard about before and I'm msging him about doing a swap... we'll see.
