Hi Guys,

I'm new here, and this is my second post. I was wondering if anyone had advice on how to remove a window regulator from a Junk Yard car. I followed the instructions on this website for removing the window regulator from my car, but the instructions require the window to be rolled down to reach screws attached to window. This is impossible in a junk yard though!

Anybody have any tips?

hammer crow bar, 10 mm ratchet, basicly, if u like to smash things, smash the window, pry the door open, pry the interior panel off, pull the plastic liner, then with the 10mm ratchet, take out the 3 or 4 motor bolts, the 2 bolts holding the regulator to the window u smashed because u listened to me, then disconnect the wire connection, then just gently pull out the regulator from the top where the window used to be, just that simple. its a junkyard, if its in ur way, and u dont need it, use the most fun way u can think of to destory it out of ur way. . .

Duh! use the jump box you brought to junkard to supply the motor, might as well do both fronts while you are in there.

Good luck sitting out their it maybe less than stellar.

Nothing like replacing a worn mechanical part.....with another worn mechanical part! seriously, with the time involved and the fact that these wear out regularly on the Q,a new part is the way to go

I like the idea of smashing the window.

You can get to the two bolts attached to the window without pulling it down but you're going to shred your hands and forearms. I found that if you remove all the 10mm bolts on the inside face of the door, except for the ones that are for the door lock mechanism, you can then wiggle/rotate the regulator assembly enough to make the window slide down a few inches. Once the window is down to the wider part of the door you'll be able to get a 10mm socket in there with plenty of room for it and your hand.

Bring Band-Aids just in case. Good luck

I find latex gloves to be excellent for these hand-shredding tasks. Sometimes I even double layer them...

The junkyards I deal with do not allow the customers in the yard for the most part unless you are a regular customer and even then they pull the parts for you. I have been allowed to enter the yard for a search to find the car and if the needed part is available but that's about it.

With the current litigious attitudes that prevails I find it strange that any junkyard would allow anyone to pull parts anymore? ? ?

I have a junkyard around here that regularly let's people in the yard to pull their own parts. In fact, they don't have anyone to pull parts for customers.

I'd just take a battery in with you and hook it up.

I did it!

I was able to angle a wrench up to where the bolts were, and I have the scraped forearms to prove it! Couldn't bring myself to take a wrecking bar to a q45, even if it was in a junkyard... Of course, I brought one in case plan A didn't work .

Thanks for your help guys!!!
