When I drive my car for about 15-20min I start to feel alot of heat around my feet and around my leg where the transmission sits. Is this normal? What did you guys do to keep temps down in your engine bay? The temperature in cali just got hot as I dont know what and I am starting to feel the heat coming from the engine bay. It makes me hot as crap and with no A/C it doesnt help me enjoy driving my car as much as I would like. I didnt realize I had that problem because in the winter I use the heater. I have a turbo blanket and I am about to install a Koyo Radiator(tommorow). I am looking for a DIY RX-7 oil cooler install but I cant find an article. Any reccomendations.

Usually it all comes from the exhaust manifold and exhaust pipe which run along the underside of the body and where your legs are. Heat-wrapping them would help. If you ripped out our cat heatshield from the bottom of the car (like I did with mine) that could add to the problem. I woudl start with heat wrapping the exhaust from the manifold, downpipe and to the cat or a bit further and see if that helps.

Your transmission.... I doubt that's the heat you're feeling, and if it is, then you have some cooling problems unknown to most drivers here (as our tranies usually don't get hot enough to overpower the heat of the exhaust), but a reason could be that you're maybe low on transmission fluid or haven't changed it in a while (trannys get hot when oil is old/low, with lots of particles/shavings in there).

To answer the topic of the post: No, but I would imagine girls do.

If I put a vent on the hood do you think it would help with the heat? Something like thishttp://www.truckcustomizers.co....html

I really dont want to screw up my hood but if it is going to helps i will do it. First I am going to ry the exhaust wrap. If that doesnt work then maybe I will sell my hood to try and get a new one.

It couldhelp some, but if it's the exhaust that's at fault, then you cannot do anything about it other than shield it. It is exposed to the outside as it is, under the car, so as you can see the air isn't cooling it down enough. You have to trap the heat and transfer it on back. Heat wrap it man, believe me, there are also power gains in that, additionally to the hot-leg avoidance.

An easier and more cost effective alternative to hood scoops is raising your hood by use of longer hood bolts and some large nuts (bigger in diameter than the bolts)

Thanks I will go with the heat wrap. I really dont want to go through the pain of screwing up the carbon fiber hood or selling it.

Or you can add some insulation between the carpet and the bodyI am using an old rear passenger carpet

That area get hot enought to melt (slowly) my shoes on a long trip.Check your oil levelScoops and vents will do nothing down there. Insulation or coatings are your only choice

I used a vent from an old 280zxT and really lowered the underhood temps considerably. However, my turbo is NOT wrapped.

Heat wrap the dp to below your feet, or the cat. or whichever comes first. Helped my heat problem tremendously.

Did you reinstall that black plastic accordian looking thing when you put your shifter back together? I skipped putting that in for a few days once, and the heat that came out was unbearable. Things still can get hot with it in, but if you left it out that could be the source of your problems.

Fiz, are you sure the source of heat on your feet/legs wasn't the piston and/or rod with accompanying hot oil flying through that area? (Zing )

I have the same problem with the heat thing. Its bad enough in the summer where you have to carry a spatula in the car to remove your nuts from your legs.

Eh, he wont even see it. He only comes on like once a month anyway.Yeah, I am always cruising with the sunroof wide open and every window down. It still gets hot down there sometimes though.

i think its normal for RWD cars as the exaust dont run down the middle completly. on my friends s2000, my leg is scorching whenever i ride in it, mainly due from the exaust running that way, as the 240, it runs closer to the drivers side.
