Anybody else have real dim headlights? Because I just put in silver stars and nothing has change. What could it be? Do I need a new relay or something of that sort?

That would be because the stock Z31 headlights suck. They are horrid; with the same bulb, an 84 Corvette and an 84 300ZX have such different results that it amazes me. It probably has something to do with the fact that they are recessed into the bumper so the light can't have the same spread as on the Corvette.

Which would make the illuminated area smaller, which makes the lights appear to be dimmer than they really are. Which certainly does not help the already less than stellar stock lights.

And it's the same story with the 87-89s that I have had any experience with. I had HIDs in my 87... they were alright, about the same as one of those Jeep Cherokees that flood the streets. But not as good as you would think they would be, being HIDs and all.

Doing alot of driving at night for my job (7pm to 4am is such a fun shift), it bothers me. I'm trying to put some projectors in, we shall see how that goes.

on the 280, the switch could be the cullprit or the connections in the valance area, take them all apart, clean them with a rbach brush and see tf ti helps, S30's are notorious for dim headlights as they use a positive switching system, this causes voltage drop, many people rewire to use relays I think MSA even sels a kit for the conversion but it's basic wiring, also modern bumps inprove things a bit

yup the switch stalk, just be careful not to loose the springs and plastic bits when you take the cover off the swithc etself, and did you check and clean the harness connections in on the core support? there si a connector on each side, a lot of times a little moisture gets in there and it will corode inside the wire where you can't see until the wire gets stripped

again they are notoriously bad as they were wired what today would be consdered backwards, andthe swithc is a common point of resistance

So should I check my wiring or something?

for the Z31 I'd recoemnd checking the sockets and wiring back tot he nearest gound, not sure eexactly where that is but I'm prestty sure there si a chassis ground within a couple feet of the headlights. I know bad chassis groun in the rear is typical anf causes tail light issues
