JDM wannabe!

lol.

Alan Peterson took out the stock CA from his JDM 'verts and dropped in SR's.

I think a CA in a 'vert would be very cool just for authenticity sake.

i've got a pair in my basement: one ca18de (nearly complete longblock) and one ca18det (not so complete) both have rwd trannies too.

i'd like to use the non-turbo to rebuild the turbo (it spun a bearing somewhere). i have no desire to put it in the vert though. i wanted to drop it into an s13 coupe, make it rhd, and do silvia conversion for a complete jdm package... but i don't think i'll ever get around to it. too much to do, too little time, too little money. but the engines are safe and sound, so maybe someday.

unless someone wants to buy them...

I have a ca18det in my vert, its been there for about a year. I'm actually selling the complete swap at the moment if youre interested. It runs very very well I have pics + video just shoot me an email at [email protected] if youre interested. I'm building the car for some hardcore **** so the 1.8 is departing for a 4.5 lol

Another guy on here tried to sell me his CA also but money is my problem. Sorry. I'm broke as a joke right about now.

It is, but price + availability led me to the 4.5.already have one in my garage, with an adaptor plate for 5 speed.

Jeez... you guys are way too hardcore for me. I just want manual swap done, so I can enjoy stick shift.

the 5.6 isn't a viable option, look at the firewall cutting required to fit it... that pretty much means you won't be able to enter any competition since that is a mod that voids most sanctioning bodies. at least with the 4.5 I can still SCCA in street modified.

oh and if you want a stick shift, get the pedal, master cyl, and lines, and buy my ca18. I'll toss in the manual trans crossmember and auto trans if you give me your auto trans crosssmember and shaft.

Verts need more torque than CA can give. It's hardly an upgrade from the N/A KA.

I'd rather do SR/VQ/LS1.

there are CA's pushing 650 hp... at the very least its a near equal for the sr.

ls1 is lame.

oh, and for the record, ca is a HUGE upgrade over ka, night and day. my stock ca vert will outrun ka24de's with intake, exhaust, headers, etc. stock boost level too... my only mods are blitz cone filter and mega racing 3" exhaust.

Someone told me of a CA pushing nearly 1000hp. Isn't the CA's block stronger than that of an SR though?

CA's are the good ol' iron blocks like the KA. And as far as being an upgrade... I had a CA in a coupe w/ exhaust and thats about it and i pulled a lil on my bro's S14 I/H/E KA, but i dont think that CA would be where i spend my money again... but i can definately appreciate authenticity (I had an '89 coupe w/ '89 CA motor and old school Enkei tri spoke mag wheels :D)

N/A KA24DE stock:

Max power: 155 hp @ 5600 rpmMax torque: 160 ft/lb @ 4400 rpm

CA18DET stock:

Max Power: 175 hp @ 6400 rpmMax Torque: 166 ft/lb @ 5200 rpm

SR20DET stock:

Max power: 205 hp @ 6000 rpm# Max torque: 202 ft/lb @ 4000 rpm

I don't doubt that a free-breathing CA18DET could pull away from an N/A KA with the same mods + a header in a drag or even on the track once the car is moving at a pretty good clip. Making a turbo breathe better really aids its performance. But I bet that just driving around town in a vert, you're not going to see a huge difference because the CA18DET powerband does not kick in for a while. We could probably find some dyno charts that show this rather than just theorizing/posting anecdotal evidence.

Beyond the dyno, the powerband and torque numbers are more of a factor in a heavier car like the vert. Heavier cars need more torque at lower RPM - the CA18DET lacks displacement vs. all of the other swap options out there. Just my opinion, but it's not worth it to swap it into a vert.

the CA uses one of the smallest T25 turbos ever made. you are looking at full boost pretty close to off idle (2500 rpm or so). turbo= more torque than an na motor.

its plenty sufficient for most people but I am selling it obviously for something much much larger.
