having trouble finding a willing shop to do a transmission flush for my 90Q. so far, been told no flush machine, machine will only do regular fluid not synthetic, have machine but won't do the job(very rudely!) if you're supplying your own parts, and will do, but very expensive, from a ford dealership. i guess my choices are the dealership, and an old, respected shop with no flush machine, but the owner claims the same outcome can be completed with removing one of the cooling lines and letting the fluid drain out while pouring new fluid in the dipstick, while engine is running. these two seemed to be the most reseptive to an owner with a little knowledge of his car. need some advice, not driving the Q till' till i can get this done, screen and gasket on the way from joe as we speak! thanks, jeff

whats a reasonable price? any reasonable jiffy lube type establishment should be able to do that for you with ATF you bring for around 100 dollars. I did it for myself and several friends at Jiffy Lube while i worked there, i guess it would help knowing someone...

scratch my local ford service dept. service manager told me today "hate to turn away business but i'm not sure our bg flush machine has the proper adapaters for the Q, and we just really don't like messing around with infiniti's, have had problems in the past with screwing stuff up with the oil filters on infiniti's". i can't believe it's that hard to find a shop do a transmission flush!!! as i'm writing this my local jiffy lube said 1. we don't know if we have the adapters for a Q on our BG machine-doesn't a shop get adapters for any car that might come through their doors!!!!!! 2. we can't do a pan drop. i guess my two choices are the not very local infiniti dealer-can't wait to hear all the negatives from that service dept. and the independant transmission shop, with the respected tech but no flush machine-but told not necessary-can flush all fluid out of a coolent line?????? he said the machine does the same thing. need advice!! jeff:help

DO YOUR OWN!!!

Drop the pan, clean the filter yourself. Let it drain for a few hours, then fill, drive, and repeat. You'll get 90% of the fluid, and you'll save a load of cash.

solid advice in the last post unless you have access to a machine yourself.

an oil change place wont do a pan drop because they dont stock the parts and dont want to take on the risk.

They SHOULD have all the necessary connectors, there is a box on top with about 20 different ones...looks like no ones interested in your business, sadly.

thanks guys! have the new screen, o-rings, screen on the way from joe. having never done this before, how difficult to change the screen, o-ring or get the pan off-does anything have to be removed? plan on spending sunday doing a diff. change, power steering change, and radiator flush. thanks again, jeff

There are a couple of hard lines that have small brackets that share a couple of the pan bolts. The brackets are secured to the line with a couple other bolts...undo those first to get the brackets off but don't forget them when you're bolting the pan back on. Bottom line is that this is a MESSY MESSY job. Much harder to do on stands than on a lift, but even then it's about as much fun as, say, eye surgery. Your transmission will drip for months if you allow it to so lay down a lot of plastic and cardboard and/or kitty litter. You WILL make a mess so maybe you can do this in your neighor's driveway after he's gone to bed. Drain the pan first if you have a drain bolt. The pan is held on with maybe 25 perimeter bolts. The filter has 4 bolts holding it down. Go ahead and give the pan a good degreasing and inspect the magnet. Make sure you remove the old gasket completely, but try very hard not to scratch the gasket faying surface. An even, flat scraping with a razor blade works pretty well, but you'll still have to scrub it gently when you're done, since the surface seems just a bit curved. Verify the torque values, but I think they're maybe 5.5 ft-lbs for the filter bolts and 6.5 ft-lbs for the perimeter bolts. They're higher cause they have that thread-locking compound on them.

Probably the best way to remove the pan is to remove all bolts but 2 at opposing corners first, then remove those 2 last. You'll want to spend as little time as possible under the open transmission holding up the oil pan and removing fasteners.

wow guys,,,,way too much for me to deal with. don't have my own driveway or garage to screw up!!!! believe it or not, not one of my friends(and their driveways) are volunteering for a transmission flush! what's the opinion please! suck it up and pay the infiniti dealership or go to the independent w/out a flush machine and have him do the job, but claims he can do the same as the machine???? jeff

How about a road trip to Atlanta to visit T3?

At least you know they are honest (sometimes a bit too honest) and fully capable. I drive over for most of my work, but then again, Birmingham is only about 2 1/2 hours from them, Penn would be a bit of a roadtrip.

There has to be a decent shop with a transmission flush machine nearby that will do what you want.

I didn't mean to scare you. To be clear, it is not a difficult job though I may have made it sound like it. It just leaves a bad taste in your mouth because of the mess and the time required. Literally, if you're not careful. Those bolts can get tedious.Given a choice, I would go to the independent, especially if I could watch.

This site will let you know of the shops around that have the BG flush machine. You can then talk to the ones you want and get a feel for their knowledge, confidence.

Best decision. Running a clogged transmission and torque converter is just asking to be stranded, or worse, exactly when you don't expect it nor need it. It is a safety issue.

what else????? how about tons of mobil synthetic atf!!!!lol it really turned out well. i found an independent tech. familiar with the flush, did a great job. no problems with the tranns. since i've had it back, maybe three weeks now. i put 16 quarts of atf in trunk with the filter/gasket kit from scottsdale and the bg flush and conditioner. told him i wanted him to flush until it ran red and he had to add 8 quarts. my transmission only had about 23k miles on it since the rebuild, so it's vital that the flush is done on a regular basis!!!!!! my advice would be have them continue the flush until it's coming out red, so you know it's clean. might take a lot of quarts but worth it in the long run. unfortunately, expensive with synthetic:( let me know if you have any more questions. good luck. jeff:D
