I wonder if FEB and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) are only a microcode update or is there a hardware piece to it? I bought the one without these features. Is there anyway to upgrade to these?

There is hardware that goes with it.

Unfortunately, no. Unlike overclocking a cpu, there's a lot more that goes into the extra bells and whistles on a car than a mere hack. This has been discussed previously, and the general consensus is that if you really wanted those features, you should have ponied up the money from the get-go.

Oh, and you title typo has been corrected.

Well... you're lucky you didn't "pony up the money" for the Foward Emergency Brake System option.

It doesn't work as advertised - not even close.

Just got my new 2017.5 Rogue SL with all the "bells and whistles" (we ponied up the money) - and the FEB system does not come close to working as advertised!

The ads and manuals show the Rogue detecting something in front of it, which triggers an alarm about 4 car lengths away from the object, begins gentle braking 3 car lengths from the object, and stops the Rogue about 1/2 to 1 car length from the object. It's all very clear as to how the system works in all of the ads and manuals.

The only problem is... IT DOESN'T WORK!

We took it in to be serviced and repaired, only to receive the typical "story" - "oh well, there are no trouble codes, so it must be working fine." "No - we can't demonstrate to you how it works, because we might wreck your car - it may not stop before hitting the object in front of you." "You just have to have faith that it will work, if necessary... just like an air bag." "That's the way it works... it just reduces the amount of the impact... when you hit the object in front of you - that's all."

To which my response was... "so... it doesn't work as presented in the ads and manuals?"

"No, sireee bob... it doesn't... and... there's no way you can test it."

So... best not to "pony up your money" for a system that doesn't work as adverstised by Nissan

Do yourself a huge favor... if you want the dang system, then go to Honda. If you don't keep your Rogue and live with that without those ridiculous systems. I have those systems on my newer car (yes, its another Honda/Acura), and those sytems really want you to drive like a grandma or a robot.
