There are three routes to obtain AA for the 2014-2017 Rogues.emtownsend wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 2:32 pmLou from NY, I wish the 2017 version of that radio unit would support Android Auto, I'd be all over that and call it good.. Unfortunately, it is only on the 2018 and above.
HI, I saw others mention changing out the head unit with the new 2018 head unit. Is eBay the only option to find a 2018 head unit? I have a 2016 Rogue SL with the Bose system. The main reason for me to switch it out is I want to use Apple CarPlay.datechboss101 wrote: ↑Fri Nov 16, 2018 2:34 amThere are three routes to obtain AA for the 2014-2017 Rogues.emtownsend wrote: ↑Thu Nov 15, 2018 2:32 pmLou from NY, I wish the 2017 version of that radio unit would support Android Auto, I'd be all over that and call it good.. 1) Replace the Headunit with the 2018 Rogue Headunit (w/ Bose) will be in the neighborhood of $3000-$4000 brand new
2) After market headunit (will loose the 360 camera function while in drive) will be anywhere from $500 to $1500 brand new
3) Download the AA app on your Android device and launch the app, and AA will be available on your phone and is completely FREE.
My main gripes with the HU are that it's slow, doesn't easily connect for apps and won't do Android Auto. Now the maps are outdated too. Seems like auto manufacturers all tend to neglect the Head Unit software once the car is sold.skithegreat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 11:33 amHI, I saw others mention changing out the head unit with the new 2018 head unit. I completely agree the H/U is slow and somethings clunky, but if I can have Apple CarPlay and keep the 360 degree camera system I am willing to put up with the slowness and pay for map updates ever couple of years (no need to buy updates every year). Otherwise I would throw in a Kenwood Excelon Connected H/U and all it a day as they use Garmin maps in their H/U's.emtownsend wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 8:58 pmhiMy main gripes with the HU are that it's slow, doesn't easily connect for apps and won't do Android Auto. I've seen a few 2018 units on eBay, but there's statement that says these are not upgrades for 2017 or older vehicles because the connectors are different. I wonder if they can be "adapted"?skithegreat wrote: ↑Thu Dec 06, 2018 11:33 amHI, I saw others mention changing out the head unit with the new 2018 head unit. I have the 2017 that unfortunately doesn't have either Google or Apple connectivity. The stereos that do not have that capability, like mine, have an "Apps" button. The newer models lack that button because it features a different touch-screen operation. Besides that, the "Apps" functionality is horrible and fails more than it works.chessmaster wrote: ↑Sun Dec 23, 2018 10:46 amI think your car should work with Android, which means you can get a much better navigation which has "real time" updates, including traffic, with Google maps or Waze. I would save the 149 dollars, plug in your smart phone, (Apple or Android), and use google maps or WAZE for free.
My 2018 ROgue has Android/Apple play, and I think this is also on the 2017's, with a possible exception of some of the very EARLY 2017's, since the Rogue was upgraded beginning in 2017.
My old Caddy (2006) had Nav on a CDROM. Of course, they want you to buy updated maps.
In virtually all cases, a real time google maps or waze is superior to an "update" because the update is virtually out of date by the time its shipped to you, since there are new roads and some changes virtually every day. Save your money, plug in your smartphone.
