Any way to reduce sound of transmission?

I have just leased a Nissan Rogue SV. It was 80% of what I wanted in a vehicle, but the 20% is what I'm concerned with.

It is the sound of the transmission (or engine?) when driving or accelerating. It was the first thing I noticed. I don't see too many people mentioning it, so obviously it is not of concern to most. But I'm wondering is there anything, besides turning up the radio, to reduce the sound? I haven't even picked up the vehicle yet. Am doing that today. So haven't had a chance to experiment with its temperamental noise. Does eco mode improve it at all?

well which is it? the transmission whine/whistle when warm, or the droning engine?

regardless, no there isnt. you wanted a cheaper suv, you got it. that comes at the expense of:
cheaper materials.
less sound deadening materials
cheaper components in wearable(brakes, tires, suspension, etc)

not trying to be a smartarse, just being fully realistic. and to be honest, you'll get used to it in a matter of weeks. its not a big deal.

Keep the RPM's below 2500, not only it is quiet you save some gas.

How do you do this?

You get used to it. Be easy on the gas and you will see that it is easy to maintain the RPM's below 2500. The CVT actually helps.

Well, I just picked up my Rogue yesterday and I'm pleased. The sound is not quite as noticeable as I thought it would be. I am taking it easy on the accelerator though like you said and it makes everything go smoother.

If you live in an area - where rust can be an issue (lot of snow & ice - and city uses salt on the streets) you can have your car rust proofed.
When we were shopping for the Rogue - the sale person said there is a dealer installed option to do special rustproofing that also works as sound proofing.

thats a bunch of crap. how do you suppose they apply rust proofing to the underside, that is above the transmission? crawl under your car and see exactly where they applied this "rust proofing". its random spots, and thats it. the car was NOT disassembled.

What you are experiencing is the normal sound and behavior of a CVT based vehicle. It is something you have to get used to but it really is no big deal. Think of it this way - think of the car as a fancy golf cart and you have a "go" pedal and a "brake" pedal and just drive it that way. Another option would be to distract yourself by turning up the excellent sound system and "rock out" as you cruise down the road.

I've found the Rogue to be a really easy driving vehicle and very comfortable to drive around town or on a road trip. Just enjoy it!

Just took my first trip to the mountains and experienced the engine & CVT whine in all its glory. Glad that is not part of my daily experience with the vehicle! I end up renting a lot of Versas as part of my job so I'm generally used to the CVT behaviors, but going up an 8% grade for 5 miles was a whole different experience.

That said, other than the noise the Rogue behaved like a trooper leaving we with enough oomph to easily get past the slower things going uphill.

Just got back from a beach trip (Knoxville, TN to/from Myrtle Beach) and went up/over the Smokey Mountains. No issues at all with the CVT and got ~31 MPG with a loaded down car (4 people w/luggage) running the AC and using nasty E10 gas (I like 100% real gas). I'm very pleased.
