I am getting ready to go through this process. Any updates on performance or problems. The directions look very well detailed....

Just curious,

Thanks in advance.

IMO, I really like the design of the stock cold air intake. I may put in some K & N filters in to really open the airflow up.

Before you do that, please search for and read the various threads that discuss oiled air filters and how they can cause problems with hot-wire MAF's in our Nissan/Infiniti engines.

I do have a non oil based filter. I was able to pick up the Takeda in the DIY thread for a good price. Only reason I haven't installed it yet, is because of the lack of entrance to the front. But the soldering gun technique looks like a winner.

wait.....oiled filters have been causing problems? Even when not over-oiled?

Well, over the weekend, I completed the process. I like the way the car drives and sound. Wish I knew how to post pictures, I would post the couple of pictures I took. Now I have to work on the exhaust. The DIY writeup was perfect.

Sorry Darthswan lots of business travel I have been all over Texas and Mexico in the past 3 weeks.

I did complete the job using the 1 foot 6061 aluminum tube 2.75" diameter I ordered from siliconintakes.com and the PVC pipe went out to the shed.

Image

I cut a single foot long section in half (was actually 11.75" long?)

Image

I was also able to get the ac line from touching the intake tubing by bending the existing mount and using the drivers side upper efan bolt.

I had to cut the drivers side of the half of the foot long pipe another 1.5" to make it all work with zero tension on it.

Passenger side is easy

For exhaust I am thinking to remove the mufflers and replace them with straight pipe. Right now I have an Altima apart in my wrenching spot and a Miata waiting for its turbo kit install, roll bar install and flying Miata butterfly brace install. Then I will further ruin my M.

Amazing the difference airflow makes on the sound and pull of this car!

edited to add, I have also had the cowl piece that is between the radiator support and bumper cover off for about a week and it doesn't make any difference in cooling that I can measure. Having it off lets me take a peak at the filter and hoses frequently so it will stay off. I was my car 2-3 times a week and the filter has not been wet yet by the time I get in it at the car wash. We had some rain in Phoenix (surprised us all) and the filter did okay in the rain, damp but not wet.

Thanks for the response. It took me two days, due to the fact I had to go somewhere on saturday. I also placed my order for that pipe. The install we fairly simple. I'm going to go back and mount that line, like you did.

Call me crazy but I do notice a difference in the drive. It drives more spirited, than it did. I also purchased the rain shield, and it fit with no problem right behind the grill. I'll clean up my dropbox, take some more pictures and post them. Thanks for that right up.

I skipped the rainshield because it doesn't rain much in Phoenix. the first company I bought the kit from shipped me the rainshield instead so I have one in my garage and still did not install it.

My car is faster for sure and I can finally hear the motor. MPG can be 20-21 combo before I got 18-19 combo so I think I gained MPG.

Takeda claims 19.2 hp gain on a dyno feels right to me.

I'm in Chicago, as a matter of fact, today will be the first test for the rain shield. My MPG prior to the filter was 21.4, curious to see what it will do now. Some people said you wouldn't notice a difference in power, I notice, a notable, difference. Pipe is on order, so i'm waiting for that

I can't wait to get to work on the exhaust now. Did you change your exhaust, or do you still have the original on it?
