Like the title says, any tips on the valve spring install? I'm having a hell of a time getting those two crescent shaped parts that lock down on the valve spring to the retainer in.

I wish I could help. I have don't several Honda heads, but never a SR. Soon though.

One think I did was to place a sock in the bowl area of the cylinder you are working on. Some of the heads I did, the valve would sink and look like you were not pressing the spring far enough down. Keep in mind I was using a Snap On compressor and not one of the general "C-clamp" type.

well the compressor I've got looks alot like a pulley puller just that it's got a large U portion on there to drop the locks in place. The locks are a pita to get in without the proper tool compressing the spring just right and it's really getting on my nerves. lol. Well I guess I'll be building yet another tool. Thanks anyway VitaminT

Yeah I know the kind you are talking about. I bought this one because at the time I was working on Integra GSR heads and they have VERY little room around the valves to get the "fingers" around the spring. This is one "like" what I have. I would be pretty easy to build except for the thing that pushes the valve.

Sorry pic is so small. I can post better pics later tonight of the Snap On unit I have.

You guys know an easy way of replacing valve springs, and or guides?? Well here it is... first get a hose used for compression testing, the end that fits the gauge fits into the hose clamp of a compressor line. Take out the sparkplug to the valve you want to mess with, stick the line in attach the air hose, and bam, when you take off the cam shafts, the valves pop up and you don't have to take off the head or get a valve spring compressor... easy as cake.

that's how you keep the valves from falling into the block when you remove the spring and retainer clips.

you still need a compression tool to remove the retainer clips
