Not sure if you're talking lower to upper (collector) Gasket or lower intake to head gasket... the old gasket material was a huge pain to remove from all of the surfaces. Even with the cyl head removed from the car, it took forever. Being aluminum, I didn't want to chance using a die grinder and scotchbrite.
Removal and all that is pretty much cake. 3/8" drive ratchet, 6" extension with a u-joint swivel is about all it takes. Don't forget placement of the grounds and such! I stumped myself the first time I went to put it back together.
If I could do it again, I'd use the thermalnator gaskets as replacements due to the huge pain it was to remove the old OE material gaskets.
