Did a quick Photoshop to see what the head unit in the first post would look like. Not too shabby, and the red sort of goes witht he burlwood of the 94.

Thanks for the photoshop image, and yes, it does look pretty good. Just thinking out loud, but, since the kenwood does not have a detachable face, I wonder how hard it would be to remove the front face of the factory system and do some kind of rig where it can be placed over the Kenwood to look like it's still factory when parking the car in questionable areas? I think I saw a similiar setup years ago in one of the car audio mags. Possible??

You have the right idea!!!!

The Clarion unit and the Alpine unit both play DVDs where the Pioneer does not. The Alpine and Pioneer units' screens are 6.5" where the Clarion's is 7". I'm pretty sure the Alpine will probably have the best sound and be the most expensive or right there with the $1,100.00 (retail) Pioneer, the Clarion will be a safe bet and probably more reasonable than the other two. I didn't see which other ones you posted but these three are the ones I'm seriously considering with the Clarion and the Alpine being the frontrunners because they PLAY dvds. The Pioneer's dvd slot is ONLY for the Navi, but I do like this steering wheel remote that they provide.

Actually, the Clarion will be more expensive... especially due to the fact that it has not been released yet. Everywhere I checked online says it debuts mid-2006. I agree that the Alpine will probably top the Clarion in sound quality, but as you can see, these stereos are not just about sound. Now the focus is on multimeadia capability, flexibility and compatability, screen size, image quality etc... Besides, most folks who buy this will have amps, subs etc. to mold the sound. I found a site selling the Alpine for $779 but they are out of stock right now.

I'd take the Clarion over the Alpine because of it's features and 7 inch screen. The Clarion has a TV Tuner option while the Alpine does not. I'd say wait for the Clarion to release and prices to drop a bit.

Watch out for head units that are too bright. I had a Dual MP3 HU in the Maxima that I wanted to cover with duct tape. It sounded great though.

You probably already know this but.....

There is an auto-dimmer lead (I believe it's called ACC) that needs to be connected during install on most (excluding super-cheap) aftermarket stereos. When the running lights or headlights are turned on, it dims the display lights. Of course there are some units that are still to bright even when dimmed. Sorry if I'm stating the obvious.

I already have a Clarion HU in my MG with a nice old school Soundstream 4 ch. amp, some Focals for front stage + Audiomobile (no longer being made) sub. I like Clarion however I think that Alpine makes a better quality product.

These are all pretty cool for different reasons. Alpine IVA-W200, 6.5” monitor dvd 2 volt pre outsClarion MAX675VD, 7” monitor dvd 2 volt pre outs; should be $750. its’ cousin the VRX765VD is exactly that on ebayPioneer AVIC-D1, 6.5” monitor dvd 2 volt pre outs Kenwood DDX-8017, 6.5” monitor dvd 5 volt pre outs (front, center, rear, sub) hmm…Eclipse AVN6600 6.5” monitor dvd 5 volt pre outs

Do you need adapter to the OEM amp (if you don't wanna change one)?

I would NOT want to keep ANYTHING from Bose on the car. I'd get 5 component sets 2front/2rear/1center plus a cool sub. Dynaudio 240GTs for components, ID MAX sub. Some JL Audio power amps. Just some of the MANY choices.

I think all those are of nice quality and they will not break the bank. The only pricey thing might be the components but I beliebe that "front stage" components are the 2nd most important element to any sound system, the first being Installation. You could also get really high end front stage and maybe a step down for the rear and center, but I would want them all to match.

It would probably cost at least 3 grand to get a nice sound system in the Q.Maybe even more. Remember the install is your MAIN concern.

I assume that you'd need an adapter for anything you want to ADD to the oem system.
