Looking at an M56 with 170k+ miles, mostly highway clearly. Unfamiliar with the reliability of the m56 in this territory what can I expect to get out of this engine still if properly maintained which it looks like it was.

From what I have seen in publications like consumer reports, us news&world, etc, both Nissan and Infiniti run just above the industry average on reliability. Only issue I know about on the 5.6L is the timing chain is known to snap and is a pricey fix.

When you look at luxury brands, I don't think as many of them make it to the more than average mileage because they get traded in for a newer model more than less expensive vehicles. As a 2nd or 3rd owner, it's sometimes difficult to know if the previous owners took care of the cars as they should have been. If you had a much larger pool of original owners reaching high mileage, you get a more reliable statistic.

Just my one and third cents.

With that kind of mileage on the 5.6 engine. I would need proof that the timing chain has been done. Other than that, these cars are pretty solid.

What you could do is research the Nissan VK56 engine and check out the other models with that engine model in it. Looks like, at a quick glance, they were used in 2011+ Nissan Armadas, and 2011+ Infiniti QX80s. For me, I wouldn't consider it, unless the price was very very good.

I agree with everyone. I would just add that any car with mileage this high is likely going into the era where expensive parts will need to be replaced. And ALL parts on an Infinit are pricey. Have a trusted mechanic check the entire suspension, steering system, brake lines, rotors, calipers, exhaust manifold, etc.

I would say 15-18K. What are they asking for it?

Any way you can find the specifics on those service records?
Also 14k seems a bit high, if you can get it down to 12k that would be more like it.

I would never by a car with 170k on it for 10k.inless you plan on driving it to the wheels fall off.it will get no resale value after you buy it.and if parts start to go.its still pricey to fix.its like marrying a retired hooker.she looks good but her vagina is like having sex with a volcano.
