No, I keep the bass at +1. The distortion comes when the volume is raised past 17-18. Even though the stock speakers are better than most other stock ones, I can pick up on the distortion and really want to replace them.

Do you have any suggestions for me?

I'd get the Pioneer model TS-G1342R speakers. They are top notch quality and they can pretty much be used with a factory deck, so just a basic swap. They are great for keeping things clean. Not amazing with bass but no distortion. You can go to a Car Toys or something to hear how they sound.

They are like $40 a pair. Install is like $25 or you can do it yourself if you can do basic fitting/wiring.

I'm almost sure they will fit but not 100% sure.Hope that helps a little.

I would not recommend replacing the stock speakers before replacing the head unit. You will get minimal improvement because the biggest weak link in any stock system is the head unit, not speakers. You pump a clean, quality source to your factory speakers and they will sound like magic! OTOH if you replace the speakers, they can't make the muddled signal sound great.

In fact that's the setup I have now, only H/U replaced... With all my past cars, I poured bucu bucks into replacing everything (speakers, head unit, amps, subs, etc), but no more. Replace the H/U and you will be very happy, trust me!

Good luck!

the only annoying thing with having to change the deck or head unit as you call it, is you have to get a special nissan altima wiring harness and trim kit that you have to special order, it costs like $50 but installing it is a pain. Or if you get it done professionally it will cost extra. Either way will be fine though. if you have the regular cd player you should probably get a new deck and it will sound better, but if you have the Bose deck its really not necessary to buy a new deck.
