Hello, i have a suspension question for you guys. so i was just wondering what you all have as far as suspension wise on your z31? I wanted to upgrade my shocks and springs but just cant seem to find much. I have found some tokico illumina adjustable shocks and springs in a set of four and also some bilstein shocks(only shocks). I was wondering if anyone has had any expereinces with either of these or which one is better? i want more of a performance setup since their are no coilover kits. the only thing is that the bilsteins do not come with the springs so i dont know what kind of springs i would use?

Any help would be appreciated thanks.

oh and these are my specs: 1986 300zx non-turbo.

best place i found was http://www.shox.com

from what i hear ST springs and Koni Shocks. eibachs are good but i dont hear to much from them .ST Springs only drop your car about .8 on all fours so you wont have a ground clearance issue. those are the ones i know of

Spring information. Read:http://z31.com/wiki/doku.php?i...rings

Personally? KONI shocks suck ***. You'll need shocks for non-turbo setups or you'll need to swap turbo strut housings for the front. Any shocks will work in the rear (turbo or not). If you use stiff springs, you'll need better shocks. Like the Illuminas.

so then do you think that the tokico illuminas would be the better choice? they are brand new and they do come with the springs for it. it says that they are for a non turbo so does that mean that they should bolt right up? thanks for the help.

You obviously didn't click the link and read the spring rates. If you had, you'd have noticed the Tokico springs are the softest commonly available piece of **** aftermarket springs on the market. If you want "performance" springs, you will buy the springs from http://www.z31parts.com If you just want to lower it and don't care about performance, get the base NA Tokico kit with the non-adjustable shocks and their springs. If you want a daily driver, I would recommend the Eibach's with the blues. They're nice for every day use and can perform decently when pushed.

im sorry to say this cuz i see that you know alot about z31's but you dont have to be a d***. yes i did look at the link. the thing is that i see the springs but i haven't been able to find much in the way of shocks to go with springs. yes i have searched and have been to a bunch of z31 sites looking for info, but they dont really say which shocks would go good with which springs. no i dont just want to lower my car i do car about performance, i just know that kyb and eibach suck thats why im trying to find out info on other brands. i had just heard on some sites that the 5 way adjustable were pretty good shocks and was just trying to find out opinions about them. i also wanted to see if anyone knew anything about the bilstien shocks as well, cuz i cant find anything on them. so sorry if i insulted you with my posts.

Eibach springs are great springs for daily drivers.Tokico springs are great springs for old people or people who should have bought a Cadillac.SS/ST/Z31parts.com springs are great for people who want "performance" springs.

Illuminas work with any spring currently available.KYB, Gabriel, Monroe, etc are crap.Blues work great with Eibachs, but I wouldn't use them on stiff springs.

One of my Z's has the Eibach/blues setup. Another Z has Illuminas/SS springs. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

Are you going to be racing this car on the track? Are you going to be auto crossing? Are you going to be just using it as a daily driver? Those should be questions you need to answer before asking what springs/shocks you should get.
