I currently have an sr'd powered 240, and Im selling it to start a new project. I was thinking about going with an rb20, mainly because I love the sound and its a cheap motor if it blows up. I have searched the internet and read all about sr20 vs rb20, but the hp numbers and availability of parts is not a huge concern, I want to hear it from someone that has driven both cars, how much of a difference would I feel with the rb20? Does the extra weight throw off the way the car handles/drifts? Just want an insight from someone that has experienced both and can give the pros/cons on driveablity/drifting/handling

rb20 is a little cheaper than sr in some cases. you cant really get rb part's here, sr drops in, rb takes some work, weight, s13 redtop 205 hp 203 tq, rb20 205 hp 220 tq (I'm not sure on tq rb guy come on in!!). I've driving both in almost stock form, the extra cost doesnt seem worth the money for the rb20, sounds nice yes.

I too have messed with both quite a bit and I have to admit the RB20 does sound neet. also if you want to you can use the injectors from an RB 25 have the ECu remap and with the stock turbo and injectors you can make about 300 hp the big problem with these motors is a small injectors make it very easy for people to max out their output while the turbo and rest of the system can easily withstand it but once things go to lean the turbo wheel melts and the head gasket melts and leaks and the Pistons fell just in general it dies!!!!!!!!!!!!!

also on your question about handling it does at about a hundred to 150 pounds to the car but the way the weight is distributed, some of it like about 30 pounds is transferred to the rear wheels, for all-out road racing putting more weight in the front is a no no but for drifting you should find it easier to kick the tail out

The rb20 was one of my first turbo swaps. It was a great learning experience but i would not go with a 20 again. Or even the rb series unless i had enough dough for a 26. But everytime something went wrong on the rb it was so hard to work on because of the tight space. I actually think in the long run you spend the same amount on your sr than you do to the rb to get it running. But hey, everyone has there own opinions.

why does everyone look at the displacement and just assume that its a waste? just because the rb and sr are both 2.0L doesn't mean that the sr is better because its got bigger pistons. More cylinders = more potential, a better sounding motor, and small displacement with lots of cylinders yields for higher rpms, which in turn can give you more potential for easier hp gains. The sr is by far a great engine, I asked about how different they feel in a s chassis. Thanks everyone else for there input
