Hey guys, I really want to pick one of these up but from all the searching I've done...all the explanations of how to install the thing on an S14 are kind of vague to me. I've checked the JWT pdf file and it helps a little, but I'm wondering if anyone here can kind of 'fine tune' those directions for me. I'm pretty sure I'm about to leave and go buy it right now, even if though I don't exactly know how to hook it up.

please help guys. I know a couple of you have one these..

so i've been trying for half the day just to get the little screw out of the middle of the distributor so i can start the wiring for the msd box.

wow....that little screw is in there good...plus it's SOFT. so i stripped it. then i even went and bought a screw extractor which isn't working very well. then while i was in town, i figured i'd stop at the nissan dealership and see if they had another screw....nope.

damn. i hope i don't have to sell the msd 6btm just because this little screw won't come out. i've even considered buying a whole new distributor just because of the miniscule yet huge problem. i'm frustrated.

same thing happened to me the first time, luckily i had an extra dist. i tookt he screw from. not that it helps now but you need a weide flat-blade screw driver and have to push down really hard while turning to get it to break loose. i put the gear of the dist. in a bench vise to hold it while putting my wieth on the screwdriver.

if you havent getting the screw out yet. get a wide enough drill bit to drill off the head of it so the rotor post thing can come off then you will be able to use a set of vise grips to get the rest of the screw out.

find anoter dist. to get the screw from or order the screw fromt he dealer that will prolly be about $3, lol

that's a good idea to drill the top of the screw off and then use some vice grips. i think i'll have to do that.

i was going to just order another screw yesterday, but the guy at the dealer didn't even have a diagram showing this screw. maybe once i get it out i can show him.

also, at the moment, i'm real scared.yesterday, after trying for the last time to get that screw out, i put the distributor all back together and started her up. the idle was little higher than usual, but i didn't think much of it. i went for a little drive and then got into a little boost. she started to stutter and stumble a little so i pulled off and popped the hood. when i got out, it sounded like an old volkswagen beetle and the engine was shaking/rocking BADLY.

as i turned around to try and get her home, the idle dropped real low and it could just barely keep itself idling. BUT, once i got up to about 2000rpm she drove fine. now when i got to my turn, she started to die and i couldn't do anything about it. as i pulled off the road, i tried to start her up a couple times...but no luck. so i got to walk home.

i hope i didn't blow my engine, got her towed back home. now i'm gonna try and re-do the timing starting from TDC at the #1 piston.

i thought i did..but i guess not.

so that's what i've been doing for a while. trying to set the distributor right.

i must have really messed something up..everytime i set the #1 piston to TDC (on the crank notch plus looking down through the spark plug hole...best i can do right now), then set the distributor at the #1 spark location, i try to start her up but nothing.then, i set her back to #1 TDC and pop off the dist cap and it's 180 degrees off....everytime!so i correct the distributor back to #1 and try again.

i've done this probably 4 or 5 times now. am i missing something here? wow....

y kno whats funny is that sounds *exactly* the way my car is with a blown headgasket. I`ve been through it two or three times and it always rocks really hard and idles horriby below 2000 when the gasket`s bad. It`s never made sense to me how the whole thing smoothes out above 2, either. Also, it cranks, and maybe "bumps" but won`t start when the headgasket is blown.

the thing is...i have a 3mm metal headgasket, so i wouldn't think it was that. but i could be wrong..

i guess i'm gonna have to go buy a compression tester today.
