Any scooter owners here?

Totally off topic, but I'm buying a lightly used Chinese 50cc scooter (QuiangJiang). This unit uses the Yamaha 1E40QMB-4 clone engine. The scooter is in perfect condition. My plan is to install a Marelli 80cc kit, upgrade a few parts... anyone have any experience with these? The engine seems to be a solid design, but what sort of lifespan are people getting out of them in between overhauls? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Yes, I know these have very spotty track records, but it's nothing I can't handle!

wish I could help, but I have no clue of the scooter or what you are suggesting to do. I think a scooter would get myself killed here in Houston. Too much traffic and too much distance to cover. Good luck and post a picture so we can see what you are getting yourself into. Sounds like a fun project. Fred

Well, I dunno about the Chinese things, when they work they are great but if you ever need a part....forget it.My son has a 250 cc quad it it was a great toy for him for about 2 yrs. The carb crapped out and according to the dealer (who now doesn't carry them any more) the part is not available, so now we are stuck with a pile of useless metal and my son is now trying to hit me up for a Polaris RZR about $15,000.00 worth....I tell him good luck.....If you can machine needed parts or are extremely lucky go 4 it otherwise can't recommend any of the cheap Chinese imports.

The scooter I am buying is a clone of a Yamaha design, and uses a very common engine. I have found a good source of parts... I was just looking to see if anyone else here owns or works on scooters. This is a standard scooter (looks like a Yamaha Vino), not a "Razor" or "GoPed" (are those things even legal??).

Wanna SHARE your parts source.....please? I think the quad my son has is also a Yamaha Clone a 250cc 2 wd perhaps They may have the part we sorely need.
