Hello.

I bought my Rogue about a month ago and so far put a bit over 1K. Now the service engine light has come on. Is there any reason why it came on? I heard on some cars the light comes on when the oil needs to be changed. Is this the case or is there something wrong? Gas cap's tight so I don't think that's it. I know the dealer told me something about 1K (or 1200 miles) oil change...Anyway, I would appreciate any help. Thanks!

Without using a scan tool to diagnose the code, who knows what is causing it. AFAIK, Nissan does not use oil change reminders so that's not it.

There has been one TSB issued for check engine light, see the TSB sticky at the top of the forum. Your best bet is to take it in to be diagnosed properly while still under warranty.

There is a myriad of self diagnostics in todays cars that will trip the check engine light. It does not mean there is a serious problem. Have it checked out.

Did you recently change the type of gasoline in your vehicle? I know for some vehicles, if you switch, perhaps regular gas to those that has Ethanol content, you might see the engine light on.

Nope. Same tank of gas. It just happened right around 1K mark. I got an OBDII scan tool so I am gonna check it out tonight. Hopefully it's not serious...

tighten your gas cap, clear the code with scanner, drive too see if it comes back on.

my service engine light came on too and I just have 100 KM on my Rogue. I checked the gas cap and it was on tight. I had just set the Homelink garage door opener on the mirror and it took many tries to get it to work, so I thought maybe that had tripped the light to come on. If it stays on after my next 2-3 trips, I will take it in to Nissan.

Most of the time it is either the gas cap, or emissions related. And probably 99 times out of a hundred it has nothing to do with the engine at all.Maybe they should change the name to Service Vehicle Soon...haha

Suprisingly, I have never had a CEL come on in any of my vehicles. I guess I'm lucky??? Knock on wood.

I have had 2 SES lights in my 06 Frontier. Both times it was...get this; -45 celcius. The first one was an emissions sensor in the rear end somewhere(sorry but I am no mechanic...lol) The second time was because, again it was at least -45; and I hadn't plugged in my block heater, tried to start my truck and it was dead. Took out my battery and thawed it out inside overnight. After putting the battery back in I didn't tighten the Neg. connection very well and lost power when trying to start it. That triggered the SES light.

My light didn't go out after a few trips so I took it to the dealer. They did a scan and it came up as "can comm circuit". They said they had not seen that code come up before and were not sure what it was. The guy thought that it maybe transmission related and it could be a faulty ground wire. He cleared the light and said to come back if it comes on again.

Time will tell........

Same thing happened to me. When I took it to the dealer, they updated the firmware and that fixed the error. This is basically a software related issue because of the wrong calculation of fuel...

I have a Volkswagen Passat (2006) and I had to go back to the dealer with the CAL 4 times this year alone ... they couldn't figure out what was wrong with it .... finally they found a tiiiiiiiny hole in the vacuum something rather (not too savvy with mechanics sorry) and after everything, the lease is up and the light is on again!!!! hence I'm here looking at/for the Rogue

Mine just came on too..just over 1000miles...live in Manhattan so Nissan dealer has no appts for today and if I bring it in the afternoon, have to leave it 'til who knows when tomorrow--the glories of living in the big A!

I'm going to check the gas cap now and look for another dealer closer than the one where I got it (about a half hour away). Never had this with my three Pathfinders! But I am loving this Roguey...especially the mileage!

when my Rogue hit the 9,000km the light fot the maintenance service turned on and rogue almost turned off. I don't know what happened it just decelerated and it would not accelerate as usual. I was 5 min from home, so I got there and parked the rogue. the next day the light was still on, but it ran normally... when coming back from work it happened again! it just decelerated and wouldn't go higher than 40km/hr.I discovered that if you turn it off and then start it again, it would "come back to normal"... obviously this was a "short term solution" until i found the time to get it to the dealer.I have taken it 3 times to the dealer and it wasn't until the 3rd that they came back to me and said they had to change the acceleration box... whatever that is.My friends tell me they are changing the transmision... me, I'm not so sure. The rogue has been at the dealer for a week now and they just don't know when they'll get the part to fix the problem. That's what they told me today and that's what got me here... and now reading all these issues in the US and in CAN with the Rogue... i'm starting to guess if buying the rogue was a good choice.I was really happy with my rogue, but now I wonder if this is the only problem with the car or if i'll be seeing more in the future...

Mine came on and I took it in. They said my sensor canister had "tipped". All fixed. Just take it in.

I just took mine in on friday because the light had been on for a week or two and they fixed it right away it was a wire on a wire harness that had come unplugged so they replaced the hole harness.

They finally got the replacement spare part they were waiting for, they put it in the rogue and tested it. I went to pick it up yesterday and 15 minutes after driving away from the dealers I went back. The service light went back on and the rogue decelerated again! The rogue is back at the dealers, they don't know what the problem may be.rjuarezjr15, redroguegal... got a question for you... did your rogue decelerated when the service light went on? or it was just the light that was on, but the rogue ran normally?will you please let me know?

also, does any one know in which nissan plant in the US these cars are assembled?

The Rogue is not assembled in the US. It's assembled at Nissan's plant in Kyushu, Japan. Most of the parts are from Nissan's other Japanese plants including engines from the Yokohama Plant, and CVT transmissions from JATCO in Fuji.

moongirl - My light went on when I was on the highway driving about 70, no deceleration. I called the dealer from my bluetooth when it happened (he was one exit up) and asked if I should bring it in right away and he said check the gas cap and call for an appt as long as there is no noticeable difference in the driving. I took in it about a week later.
