Hi guys,

I'm looking to become a Q45 owner shortly - have found a car that has extensive service history with most of the major common issues with these cars rectified. It's a 1996 Australian Delivered model but is in Queensland.

The old boy who has it, apparently replaced the suspension with coil overs a few years back (to the the tune of $3900) as he could not find new shocks. Now i'm guessing that as it's a 1996 Australian delivered Q45 it would not have the active suspension..any aussies care to help me confirm this? the old guy does not know.

The problem with the coil over is that is a modification that requires a cert - for me to register it here in NSW It would need to go over the pits..which It might not pass with the coil overs..any advice would be appreciated cheers.

You're right that Australian delivered Q's didn't have the option of active suspension, or touring either. We only had the base model (with TCS).

As I'm on the other side of the country, don't know how severe your state will consider this "modification". If you do buy, make sure you check around when working on the car. With only 400 sold here parts can be difficult although not impossible. I replaced the rear shockies this year with genuine. Apparently the last two in Australia though. Same with brake pads the last time around. Another owner had ordered them through Nissan from Japan and then didn't pick them up - my gain. You learn to plan ahead. Apart from this, the car is very reliable and you only pay Nissan part prices. Definitely no where near BMW / Merc / Jag prices.

Thanks for your reply OZQ45

Nice looking Q as well. It looks like it will be too much hassle for me to get the car over the pits here in NSW (Nazi's) so I am going to give the Q a miss, and look into a LS400.

I understand all the downsides involved having rare cars - having owned a H252 Nissan President - JDM Crowns etc for the last 12 years. Sucker for punishment. There was/is a 1996 Black president here in NSW somewhere I saw it for sale 5 years ago - for very cheap 4k from memory.

Bascially I would need to get a Q that is already here in NSW - as when getting a blue slip for an interstate car it has to be 100% factory - coil overs would fail.

Boo hoo.

oh yeah - there is an early Q (I can't handle the nose and for a few other reasons would only be interested in the facelifted version) but there are two wrecking in QLD by the looks of it for you other Oz Q45 owners!
