Im planning to get a red/black top swap and I wanted to know if any one here who has that swap ran into problems with smogging it. I live in bay area, Cali and I have friends that cant pass smog with jdm honda engines. I also wonder if its the same with nissans. I know you have to have all the wiring clean as hell and keep the engine stock as possible. Any advice or tips to pass smog?

Yeah.... make friends in the industry. running lean with a new cat should get you past the sniffer but you'll never pass the visual unless you bribe him, he's your friend or he's incredibly stupid. Don't count on him being the latter.... I say network and find someone that can do it for you. ;)

Its hard to find places that illegally pass smog now though. They are really cutting down now. $30,000 fine for illegal smog.

Umm... for the interest of everyone in this forum, especially the party you are addressing, this sounds like it would be wise to keep that to PM interaction. Way to blow everyones spot man! C'mon, this kinda stuff is what will make it harder and harder.

Go to your local BAR ( Beauro of Automotice Repair ) and talk to them. They are THE ones who can give you clearence to run a smog illegal car. also do any of your parts have OEM numbers? if so that is a GOOD THING. that and the most important of all, cross your fingers!s3x

ps, how much should i expect to pay for a SD20DET?( any clue how much a skyline engine would go for? )

s3x: You are asking way too general a question. Engine prices vary greatly on several factors. Generally speaking, you get what you pay for. But the biggest thing is which generation the motor is(S13,14,15/RB20,25,26) and whether it comes from a clip or is just a motor set, onbiously its more with a clip and so is shipping a clip. Milage is an issue with some sellers. Some sellers just tell you the usual "between 30-50kmiles." Some sellers will provide original gauge clusters showing miles, a few crooks include phony low milage clusters. Basically, there is a good amount of risk involved with buying an SR or RB. At this point I would steer you toward a member of our board, Dauntless at http://www.afterdarktuning.com.

GENERALLY you are looking at ballpark prices like this. Anything higher or lower and you're probably getting ripped off.s13 motor: 2000-2800s13clip: 2500-3200s14 motor: 3000-3500s14 clip: 3500-4000s15 motor: 4000-4500 s15 clip: 4500-6000

RBs are surprisingly inexpensive for their "exotic factor" but its the installation that will get expensive. Again, these change much more than SRs through the generations (in displacement, turbo type, etc.) so the prices vary accordingly. Now go do some research on your own...good luck
