Just picked up a nice 83 944 and wondering if any fellow NICOites are also owners. Looking for general info, suppliers, forums, etc. I've found a few forums but the tech help isn't really all that detailed compared to this great forum.

Better hope the clutch is good. It is a major PITA to change and can cost up to $3K in some shops.

That is the only true weak spot in the car.

Enjoy your new 944. I don't own one, but I know several 944 owners on the east coast. All use their porches on the track. Some stock, most modified. You might want to check out PCA. (Porsche Club of America) they do a lotta fun stuff: track events , autocrosses, meets, rallies, etc. If you're in northern CA, I''m sure PCA has events at Mazda Laguna Seca and Sears Point (Infineon), for example.

Thanks for the input. The clutch feels fine so far. The deal came with a lo-mile spare engine(2 bent valves), clutch/PP, and so many parts I can hardly store them all. It doesn't need any of them yet but the I know the day will come. As to shop prices I do all my own work on my 91 Q and prepped Miata. If you've ever crawled under a 4100 lb Q and tried to slip a wrench into some impossible position, you would know why I'm pleased that the 944 looks very simple in comparison...you can't get to 4 injectors on the Q, 8 PS hoses that cost over $100/each, a bazillion hoses under the plenum, the list goes on forever...now tell me about about high priced maintenance. All and all the Q is my battlecruiser, the Miata is for losing fools on the twisties, don't know what the 944 is yet...hope it's not a bottomless pit for my hard earned dollars. One thing for sure it's not as refined as the Japanese cars I've owned over the years.

I have fond memories of porsche 944s. Only because both my ex and her sister had beautiful Black and Red mint condition 944s. Tiny *** car though. They are 4'11 and 5'0 so they fit but i seriously couldn't even sit up straight in those things. I only hope you are less than tall.
