I had mine fixed at a local shop in about 3-4 hrs south of you (Terre Haute).

Cost me $100 to build the collar, crank machined, collar installed, and micro-polished.

I'm trying to remember where Andy (Booztd 3) had his done at - it would be much closer to you.

I had my crank snout welded, ground, and rebalanced at a place down south in LaSalle. It was pretty expensive at 300 bucks or so.

If you want more info, I can try to find out who it was.

Thanks - Evan

How was the quality of work from both shops? I'm not quite shure what this would cost me but was ready to stomach a couple hundred if i had to for good machine work. Is it worth it to get the crank balanced while im at it?

Any decent machine shop can install the crank collar if they have a lathe. It is best if you go through the instructions with them to be sure that they understand what is needed. For welding, they would just have to match the existing oil pump drive diameter and flat spot (forget the name of it).

If you're using the collar (JUN), it probably doesn't NEED to be balanced if it is installed according to instructions.

If it is welded on, a lot of heat can be involved and warp the crank. In that case, balancing it is essential.

+1

Most machine shops will be able to do it without a problem. But then again, being picky on machine shops is a good practice.

Since the majority of the weight or change there of is happening to the center (and not on the outer edges like the counter weights).

But regardless, balancing is a minor procedure to have done if your crank is going to be out anyways.

Just to clarify, I didn't use a collar. Machine work was great! I would do it again. At the time, the collar was VERY difficult to come by (about 3 years ago).

Well any other information on the shops would be great... like a name, phone number, address. I am hoping to get the crank in there as soon as possible.

if you think your crank is warped you can use a dial indicator to see if it's within factory specs. i had my neo25 crank welded but the guy welded the entire diameter of the snout and needs to be grinded down. even with the coloration and heat dispensed the indicator read it to be true to spec. the heat on the snout doesn't seem to be an issue because of the location on the crank.

anyone wants it it's fo sale in my sig... just needs the metal grinded smooth. should run about $50-$100

Depends on if they do it inhouse or have their crankshaft stuff subbed out. Shouldn't take more than a week though.

Apparently they only do crank shafts but sounds good. Should give me enough time to finish stitch welding the frame and painting the engine bay. Also im working on a plenum and ITB setup .
