I'm in the process of fitting a turboed vh45 to mine. It is an 89GQ with a LOT of other mods ie it is a winch challenge truck. I've shifted the body back 75mm to clear the firewall, and you either do that or space the engine foward. You can't cut the firewall due to the steering being in the way. There is quite a bit of info on doing the conversion on outerlimits (oz forum). I'll share info as I'm just about to mount alternator 75amp 24v ie rather large, ps and hydraulic pump for the winch. You will need custom exhuast headers as I've tried to make the factory ones fit but even butchering them won't help. It appears that with a bodylift you don't need to modify the sump but I've yet to take the springs out and actually check (tape measure only so far). I could go on as I've done a heap of work on making it fit I'm now sorting out the hard bits like making it go! Mine is getting the turbo etc fitted before christmas as I'm racing it on the 10th march!

Hi Darin Are you taking your truck to OBC. I have been folowing your build on OuterLimits. Nice truck. I'm am at the beginning stages of building a OBC style truck so will probably have a lot more questions, but will do that on OL.

These guys here know a lot about the VH45 and it is by reading this forum that convinced me to go VH45. As you said, the difficult part is geting it going. I first have to get it into the Patrol.

darinz, do you know Ken from Corus Metals ? He's building a winch challenge truck with a VH45 too!

Hang on... you must know Ross from United Flexible, right ? He was just telling me on friday about a setup that sounds exactly like yours.

Mettler, I don't know either of those guys by name, but that doesn't mean I haven't meet them. Where in the country are they from? The winch challenge series is getting pretty big now. I've actually been pretty involved in getting the full national series organised which starts next year. I also run the Northland comp, so more people know me than the other way round!

Hopefully do OBC and the XI in 2008, but it's going to cost around $30k so have to get a few more good sponsors to be able to do it.As far as fitting the motor in. I'd shift the body back as your appraoch angle is then about 80 degrees! With 37's you'll be able to drive into a brick wall! I've shifted mine back 75mm. You'll have to fit a remote oil filter, the PS alternator and aircon will have to be changed. I'm just fitting a 70amp 24v alternator which will go where the standard alt was but you have to completely remove all factory brakets. I'm using a VL commy PS pump and mounting it in factory position. The turbo is going to be mounted in front of the engine as there is so much room between the engine and the radiator. Air filter etc has yet to be looked at but I think my 4" snorkel will need to be modified, I think it'll end up like Cass's one. It appears my truck will be racing again at about 1900 to 1950 kgs with about 500hp. Should go quite well then I think!!!!!!!!!!All I can say is the sooner you start the sooner you can drive it!

We have quite a few guys over here preparing for OBC 2008. I'd really liketo come over then, but it will be very much as participant rather than competitor. We don't have anything close to that style of comp here so it is difficult to get experience in what to do and what not. Almost all my mods are based on Outer Limits and the 2 guys here who have competed there.

Will post some pics as soon as I have the engine and box together.
