haha good luck man... 1995 are you OBDI or OBDII?

I know a couple people who work doing emissions but as you probably know its a very tight system now, especially after they revamped it this past year... I'm due in june and my fingers are crossed hopin that I'll either figure out some shady deal or pass with some changes to the AEM...

Are you taking the car back to CT for the test? Most places will do out of state testing since it's federally controlled.

I have some suggestions for you to pass if your getting it done.

I think I'm the only KA-T in CT who has legitimately passed under the new system....I passed about a year ago come may....it was not easy, and it was not fun, but it was done "lawfully"

I'm an OBD II '95....which sucks, because OBD II cars that are '96 and up don't get the sniffer in the tail pipe. SOB's

WD and markEmark what are your suggestions? right now as it sits, my car does not have a cat on, i'm planning to use a magna flow highflow cat designed for california emissions. also since i have no EGR like the rest of us, i was planning to richen up my idle alittle to cool off the exhuast temp so i don't produce any NOx.

however what scares me now is that my turbo burns alittle oil at idle so i'm afraid the sniffer might pick up some extra HC. i also have a oil restrictor on, but it still burns alittle

i'm also thinkin about putting some isoheat in the tank, and i did turn back on base timing alittle.

is there anything else i can do?

and structure i will give them a phone call and if they let me get it done else where, i will make a trek down to new jersey to pay you a visit.

thanks guys.

Here's a quick recipe for a pass, do all of these steps and you should pass if your using any type of cat.

Mark your distributor, so you can reposition later. The retard the timing quite a bit, all the way if you want. Run your car down to about 4 gal of gas, then add 1 gal of denatured alcohol. Turn the idle air screw out till the idle is about 1200 rpm. Drive your car till the engine is completely warm, I suggest 30 minutes. Prior to getting the test done, remove the #1 injector wire, this will cause your car to idle like crap, but it will still run. The increased idle speed will also help. With the injector not firing that cylinder is pumping fresh air into the exhaust stream. The effectively raises your AF mix about 2 points, the alcohol burns without releasing hydrocarbons.

Thats every trick I know wrapped up in one package.

Best of luck...

well my distributer is already retarded by a few degrees. where can i get the denatured alcohol? and will this work with build engines with different compression and larger injectors like 615cc's? cause the next time i will need to get the inspection i will be running that setup.

also can't i just use my SAFC with a wideband to lean it out 2 points? and when you say 2 points, does that mean from like 14.7 to 14.9? and won't leaning out my a/f ratio create a higher chance of creating N0x? i'm worried about that since i have no EGR.

but thanks for the heads up wd

when I say 2 points I mean from 12-14. Leaning it out with a safc will lean out all the cylinders, removing one injector doesn't actually lean out the firing cylinders, it just removes spent gas and adds fresh air, basically like the EGR system is supposed to do. Alot of cars have a oxygen pump. This is the same concept.

More fuel gives more spent gasses...

Alcohol is 9bucks a gallon at Ace or slightly cheaper at a paint store.

You can do this no matter what size injectors you have so long as you have a way of tuning it.

I like your thinking...I may have to try this method after my engine is rebuilt and I have a different MAFS, ECU and fuel injectors.

It's been a while since I passed, but I retarded my timing to like 12 deg btdc, lowered my fuel pressure to about 29 psi (it's supposed to be 34 psi), used about 20% pure methanol mixed with 94 octane gas, had a catco high flow cat, and had ALL of my emissions stuff still connected, including the EGR crap. It barely passed...and by barely, I mean it was 6 parts per MILLION within the limit for NOx.

You have an S-AFC though, so I'm sure you can program it to lean the car out at certain RPMS. IIRC, they don't go past 3000 rpm during the test, and I believe it's done while NOT in gear.
