I need to know if I can postpone a court date, or do I need to have a lawyer to do so? If I can go about doing this myself could one please tell me. Thanks Id appreciate it alot. O an the reason for this is because my court date falls in the week Ill be out of the state, an I know the clerk of courts wont just let me postpone it due to being on vacation. So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

if this is just for a traffic violation or something it's no big deal. I've done it before, just call em up and be like "yo dawg I cant make it for real" and they'll be like "cool gangsta, catcha on the flip side."

...somethin like that.

If it's a case for something else I wouldnt know, though... why not just call them and ask? ...not like you HAVE to use the "vacation" excuse.. come up with something better!

Lawyers drive nicer cars. I would hope so at least.

In my experience in San Diego, you can postpone via telephone, mail, or show up in person to the clerk. How much of an extension is granted depends on which option you decide on.

But no, you shouldnt need a lawyer to postpone a court date for free. Unless you've postponed like half a year and the court is getting pissed.

well my goal is to postpone or keep postponing for as long as possible, it betters my chances the cop wont appear in court.

Trust me. That doesn't work. Most of the time an officer shows. If they don't, consider it a stroke of luck...

In most states the officers dont need to go to court, they can just submit a supoorting deposition for a traffic infraction

um actually i think everytime u postpone or theres a change of date for any reason both you and the officer get a notice so its not like he's gonna forget or anything.

besides, you dont go to court right away... first you meet with a magistrate who will review your case and probably try to cut a deal. If you refuse that, THEN you go to court with the cop.

...at least thats how it is in CT
