The reason I ask is I would like to run this turbo on my KA, but when I mock this thing on top of my manifold, the flexible low pressure hose looks to be in the way of any DP. I really don't want to get rid of my A/C either if possible.

What do ya'll do? THANKS

Kevin

This is a Rebuilt Borg Warner/IHI T3/T04E out of a 6.5L diesel GMC truck. Polished the compressor housing, also had the turbine & bearing housings Jet hot ceramic coated.

Should work just fine. I run a Garrett T3/T04E on-center topmount with the A/C line in place. It's very close, but not touching.

Hey KAT, do you have a pic showing the DP-A/C line together? That would help tremendously!

Any one else please feel free to post a pic please of this too.

Thanks,

Kevin

that factory line didnt work for me................but my mani is a sidemount so the oil return line happened to line up perfectly with my low pressure side port lol. after about 2 weeks, the turbo knocked that sucker right off. anyways, i had to get a custom line built and it relocated the low side all the way to the firewall out of harms way. hopefully u wont need to do that..............

Mine's similar, but the DP is nowhere near the A/C line.

I DID have to modify the wastegate dump pipe to go around the steering and the A/C line, but that was no biggie.

my S14 was the same way when I had A/C...the downpipe cleared just fine...the wastegate pipe cleared the A/C line by like 1/4"

I will take a pic tonite of my mock-up of what it might look like. Can you guys throw in some pix of what your clearences look like?

Since this turbo is so stinkin' heavy, I should go with a cast iron manifold, but what do ya'll recomend?

any type of manifold w/ thick-walled steel would be fine as well...assuming its welded properly...

if you think your turbo is heavy, you should feel how heavy my manifold is (made of schedule 40 stainless weld-els) hehe...

Ok, here's a "rough" mock up of what it may look like, & honestly I don't see how I'm gonna finagle a 2.5" pipe, let alone 3" down that path.

will your hood close? it seems pretty tight.mine is close to the a/c line too. i had to put a heatshield in between to keep the down pipe from touching the line.

here is a picture of my friends s13. his down pipe starts about the same place yours does.

id advise anyone with such clearance issues or space limitations (probably 80% of the ka-t's) to definitely heat wrap that a/c line with the heat wrap stuff from either advance or wherever. i know that since im in FL, a/c is as important as having an engine in the car. the extra precaution can help save you from a future headache...................the heatwrap at advance ran me 40 bux i think for 50 feet............

What kind of manifold will you be using? The location you mocked yours up in is set far back compared to most turbo mani's. Most mani's will place the turbine entry somewhere near the center of the mani. This will probably allow enough room to drop the downpipe in front of the A/C line. But do protect the line in a heat wrap. You might consider wrapping the downpipe as well.

Sorry for the delay, but I've been CRAZY busy with work, and we've had rain every afternoon.

So, pardon the dark pics, but here are some shots of my DP.

The setup is:

Garrett T3/T04E (.63 a/r exhaust)SSAC TopmountCustom 3" DP

You can see that it's close, but it's been that way all summer and no ill effects, yet. The A/C line doesn't actually touch the DP, but it is VERY close. I'd recommend at least wrapping the DP, and as mentioned above, wrapping the A/C line probably is a good idea, too. I might do that when I slap this new engine in there.

I also plan to put a couple washers behind the brake booster on the passenger side to c*** it slightly toward the driver side. That manifold makes the turbine housing VERY close to the BMC.

Yes, that's what I was looking for. Gives me a better idea of what I can expect.

I don't have a manifold yet, need an idea of which one I can use.

What manifold are you using?

Thanks,

Kevin

SSAC topmount from Ebay.

Just shove the A/C line back toward the brake booster and you'll be fine.

My T3/T4 cleared my A/C line with ease, But anytime I hit boost I had nothing but hot air come out the vents.....
