So I have talked with a certain friend of mine who also runs a Nissan dealership and he told me he could get some pullies made for our Q45s.

I would need a set of stock pulleys- crank pulley and possibly alternator and PS pump pulley. On average I've seen bout 10WHP from Pulleys on Nissans, this wouldn't be too expensive. All I need is to send them in and I would get a set to evaluate, these would be MUCH MUCH lighter than stock, and could possibly underdrive our accessories also. There are very little gains to be had from underdriving, most are from the rotational mass weight loss.

I've had pulleys on my SR20, and I have em on my Maxima also. There are really no problems with them on internally balanced motors like our VHs.

I would need a G50 for a exhaust fitment in the future- we would have alteast one option as far as catbacks go then !

Mike,I've got a spare crank, PS and alt. pulley from my parts car that can be used for mock-ups. How much money are we talking to get these made?Paul

I forgot to add the Water Pump pulley to the list.... I am not sure how much it would cost but I assume no more than 200 bux for all the pulleys.

Paul let me know if I could pick those up from ya and if u need them back or anything. I would ship them out to my friend who could make a few sets for us.

would you really want to underdrive the waterpump?

actualy if you do alot of road racing and high reving yeah.... it helps preveting catavation in the water (spinning so fast it creats air pockets i believe) but i know its good... but not really nessisary for daily driving

Mike- you're reading my mind...was just thinking about a slight UD, so that the alternator doesn't grenade with those 7300 rpm blasts!

I couldn't send you a spare, as i don't have one---but I'd ask you to keep in mind us active Q's with the wider PS/active/waterpump pulley.

There is no real HP gain in the Under drive systems! The UDS frees up the HP lost threw lost threw over driven accessories! The larger pulley will drive accessories slower reducing their parasitic HP lost! You have the reduction of wear and extends parts life! All engines will not benefit from UDS and the best and safest two to UD is the Power steering Pump and Water Pump! There's no real gain from A/C! The Alternator slowing may damage or under charge electrical system and damage regulators and ECU! The crank pulley or Harmonic Balancer should stay the same because if you increase the size of the HB you Under Drive the rest of the pulleys ETC. Most Under Drive systems do away with the Harmonic Balancer on the Crank Pulley and a unbalanced pulley will vibrate the hell out of your whole car! Which will ultimately damage engine M-BEARINGS! Race application doesn't matter but, street application you will have to watch which pulleys you under drive!

I do agree with your statement bout grenading the engine with a Crank pulley on a street engine- BUT only on certain engines.

Our VH45DEs are INTERNALLY balanced engines, meaning that the crankshaft is balanced properly to not need any external rotating mass to cancel out any vibrations from the crank. Most domestics and some german cars come with LARGE harmonic balancers mounted on the front of the engine right on the crank pulley. If you remove the harmonic balancer it will make the engine run very rough and will lead to bearing failures in the engine.

I've put bout 80K miles I think on my Maxima with underdrive crank pulley and I have yet to have any problems, I also have a lightweight flywheel and those 2 items mounted on opposite ends of the crankshaft haven't done ANY damage but just made the engine so much more rev happy.

We CAN NOT make a AC compressor pulley, it would NOT work.

Gains from the pulleys are due to the weight savings, and I belive we could make some very nice HP gains with the pulleys. I am NOT 100% sure but years ago I heard Unorthodox pulley for the 300ZX TTurbo made 30WHP more. I always thought that was little crazy as I usually seen gains of around 10HP, but the crank pulley on the Z is MEGA heavy, same thing goes for our VH crank pulley. I think its safe to say the stock pulley weights bout 15-20lbs, where a similar underdrive pulley would weight bout 2lbs.

In order to make the ACTIVE owners happy I would need the ACTIVE pulleys that are diff. in order to make them a set. I do not have an active Q nor I know of anyone that does that even has spare pulleys to help out.

Provide me the parts and I will make them for ya.

you will definitely need the larger pullies from the active made, as its the same way with HICAS cars...

I can only make a set if I can get a hold of a stock set....... unless someone has a set that I could use only the non HICAS and Active models will benefit from this.

Blackbird,You can use my set of pulleys for prototyping but I would like them back.Call me and we can set up a get together.

Paul,I recently formated my PC and lost all my saved E-mails with peoples phone #s in them. If you could please PM me your # so we could chat and possibly meet up this week so I could pick up those pulleys from ya.

Hey I know this is an old thread but were there any pulley made?

Dennis what do you have to say about this? I assume from your lack of posts in this topic you see this as useless.

After reading that thread I see that any performance gain is a loss to engine longevity. But I never saw any dyno numbers either so I assume the idea was never finished or scrapped.

Wes what are your plans with the pulley?

i made another thread showing acceleration times with videos... search around for it..

basically, it made no gains at all.
