Hi everyone,

I am pretty much finished with my build with the exception for the installation of my tomei poncams on my rb26 and was wondering how many people would be interested in having me do a stock vs. poncam comparison. Since my cam shims are on back for a couple of months, I wouldn't' mind getting it put on the dyno with the stock cams installed first and then redyno with the new Tomei Poncams seeing as there is a lack on data on this upgrade. The comparison would encompass more than just the cams however, it would also include me resetting the cam timing back to zero (since the head and block were shaved during the build), properly shimm'ed cams, and the new poncams. I will most likely alter the cam timing on the dyno also since I have adjustable cam gears to maximize my power band.

Since I don't have a build thread yet, I would probably just incorporate the results into it when I do create one. The only catch to these results would be some form of mild funding from nico members (possibly other sites as well). I think $200 would be a fair goal for me to break even on such an undertaking considering its an extra trip to the dyno, dyno time, and installing cams a second time.

Let me know if anyone is interested and I will keep a tally on this thread of who has contributed and how much. If the goal wasn't reached I would simply refund the money back to everyone. The dyno results would be ready most likely by mid-february. My paypal is: [email protected]

Lastly, THIS IS NOT A SCAM!!! lol, I am just an avid gear head/mechanical engineer who would like to see these results myself, but not enough to shell out the entire costs. I would rather just install the tomei poncams from the get go instead.

AWD is simple, just graft the entire running gear from a gtr (strut towers, cross-member mounts, notch/strengthen frame rails), modify the floor pan, something to control the transfer case, matching diff's, and your done! About a weekend's job if your McGuiver, 14 months if your me lol.

I have the Poncams Type B. I will not be running the stock cams to even compare it to. It will be a while til I test it though since I am lagging like Julio with my AWD swap haha. The machine shop is also on a huge delay, and I can't put the motor back together until they finish up my crank (high rpm rebalanced with CP pistons and Manley rods). After this whole Christmas and new years fiasco, I will probably kick into McGyver mode and work on the car every day rather than once every two weeks.

Julio, have you worked out how you are going to control your transfercase pressure? I have the stock ATTESA pump that I will try letting the Haltech ECU control via relay and pulsing the solenoid. It works in my head, but I don't know if it will work in the real world concept lol.

HXC: I have the 260* 9.15mm poncams, can't remember if they are type A or B. I have seen some dyno results of them in the past, increasing power everywhere in the powerband, but with others mods to boot, so a true comparison vs. stock wasn't shown.

As of now, I am strictly worried about getting the car tuned and working out the bugs before I hit up the transfercase pressure. I have searched quite a bit on the subject of how the attesa system works and haven't found any evidence that the solenoid needs to be pulsed to control actual line pressure, but it makes sense to me. I did read on the GTR forum that the solenoid can burn out if you try to operate it at the wrong frequency.

I think I am just going to hook up an adjustable pressure switch with the solenoid to a trigger relay, no pulsing needed.

I believe you have the same as mine (Type B). The type A have a slightly shorter duration (256?). I just remember I was going for the longer duration of the two, and it was only in the 260 range for the B.
