Just buy the AEM they have the best Reputation and Quality and are either C.A.R.B approved or pending approval, "bling" has to many products for sale; fog lights, tailight smoke, and their fog lights have not been approved by D.O.T. which makes them not street legal.

I don't think it will be that bad. It looks like it's a short ram so you won't get air as cool as the air you would get from the AEM. But some people prefer short rams. Although cold is better than warm, the sheer volume of air available will still give you a boast. Virtually all intakes, name brand or ebay, are built the same. An aluminum tube that's mandrel bent. If you do buy this, I suggest you replace the filter. This is where these "cheap" intakes are actually cheap. They normally pair them with pretty sorry filters that do not last very long and do a poor job of trapping dirt. Replace the filter with a quality cotton gauze or foam filter to make sure you're doing a good job of keeping dirt back. As with all intakes, check all joints and seals for leaks. There's no point in having a filter is air is just getting in through a leaky joint.

The big difference is the "Cold Air". You get more horsepower from getting cooler air into the intake and want to stay away from the hot air that a motor produces. On our Race Car and the Snakes they are all the "Cold Air" systems.I guess the old saying of "you get what you pay for" is true about this system.

Buy it, then put a K&N filter on it.

It'll be better worth it in the long run to get the AEM, hence cold air, and it will SOUND better too.

That bling intake didn't look bad at all, just the filter seems cheap like everyone says. If you factor in the cost of the filter, $25-50, you're still spending like $100-130 dollars according to the buy now price.

Honestly, just wait and save up for the AEM. It'll be far worth the wait!

No reason not to. I don't believe their dyno sheet at all. To say the Versa got a 140 HP at the wheels, come on. Yeah a CAI is better than the short ram air style, but not that much different to be honest. Curious as to how much of a difference between a cold andwarm air intake. Doubt the sound would be that much different either.

I've had the pleasure of having both on my truck. Although this is a much larger vehicle, it made a difference. I used to do a lot of street racing in my truck several years back. When I ran the short ram, I would experience less and less performance with every light. The heat would build up in the engine bay with after every race and would deliver warmer and warmer air to the intake. I converted the short ram into a CAI via an extension pipe that extended the short ram to the fog lamp holes. From one light to the other, I could consistently feel the same response. I no longer lost the performance that I had with the short ram. Short rams would be adequate for everyday use, if you're racing you may want the CAI for sure. I didn't have any type of bypass and almost killed my engine one day, so I took the extension off. I went to Home Depot and bought a simple 3in $5 stiff dryer duct and connected it to the fog lamp holes (Yeah I know it's a cheap fix ) Now I get cool air in the engine bay while moving. If I have to go through very high water then the water will go up the duct and spill out at the top before the filter. Not a true CAI but meh it works, plus I can be cheap sometimes

Here's a silly question....

If you want to draw in more cold air and the intake tube is running through a relatively hot engine, would it make sense to use heat wrap (like they use on manifolds) or some other shield in order to shield the engine heat from heating up the aluminum intake tube....thus making your air cooler?

Header wraps are often used, but I've never seen a intake wrap before... Perhaps someone with a ScanGauge and a CAI can test this for us.

I was thinking about buying this thing, just for the heck of it to try it out. Like clipsled said, it's cheap! I'm not really looking for HP gains, but it'll probably sound nice and might even improve my MPG at highway cruising speeds a little bit. I used to have a homemade short ram on my old Mazda Protege, and once I stopped putting my foot into it because I loved the sound so much, I noticed that I was getting about 3 or 4 MPG on the highway. The only thing I noticed in the pic is that there isn't a spot for the MAF sensor?!? I haven't examined the stock air setup too much, but shouldn't that be located after the filter but before the throttle body?

intake by itself does not make more than 1-5 horsepower and a short ram may have an advantage it is more responsive. cold air is more on the top end so off the line short ram is better but if you learn to drive with cold air intake you can adjust and have best of both worlds.

NOW TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONif this will be your only performance mod than buy it it will sound good and save you 1mpg. if you plan on other mods dont go cheap because they work together. for example if you have headers and an exhaust system but your intake cannot deliver enough power than you have to replace it to make the system work. just my 2cents I went with fujita its from japan its pretty good. on my acura I went with the cheap ebay it it sound really good, but after adding headers and exhaust I needed more suction. i ended up with aem.

I was also thinking of stray painting my intake black seeing that I dont like the chrome or other colors. This would also help keep some hot air out and help keep some of the cold air in.
