I think I have a feeling for how this feels. My old 64 Merc would at times have it lights go out (usually in a high speed curve). The lights in that car have a circuit breaker instead of a fuse. if the lights were on for an extended period it would open and then reclose (just before the crash). Fix was to connect the lights into an auxillary relay which carried the load.
