Well I finally broke down and decided to take the car to my local Nissan Dealership. After an hour of diagnosing they called me and said I needed a new TPS sensor.. I went ahead and allowed them to do the work. On my luch break I went and picked up the car and what do you no as soon as I got on the road it started doing the same dang thing surging/ hesitating.. I turned the car right back around and nissan took the car back and started diagnosing again. They has the car for 5 business days, and said that they checked everything that they could think of. They called nissan tech lines, they had nissan master techs looking at the car and nothing. The only thing they could think is that one of the injectors was plugged. I decided to pick up my car and get a fuel rail and injectors from a salvage yard. I put the injectors in and it didnt fix a thing.. I cant take it anymore I think I am going to have to get rid of the nissan.. If you have any other Ideas please let me know... thanks

Not sure about a replacement... I really love this car. I may have run into something though that could allow me to keep the car. I was playing around with the harness that plugs into the TPS, and everytime I really jiggled it.. it made the car either stall or hesitate.. I am going to a local yard tomorrow to see if I can get the whole harness.

Is this called the Engine harness?

It's the engine part of the wiring harness (the other part is the dash harness, they can be sold separately and often are). It'll probably be labeled as an engine harness, or at least they''d know what you're talking about.

I've heard of this before. I thought I mentioned it in the thread. Specifically if an injector, MAF, or important sensor's plug gets jostled, it can have connectivity issues causing the sort of issues you're having.

Hello everyone,

I also have a 2002 SE-R and I am having a similar, if not the exact same problem. The car stutters at idle and jerks while accelerating. Once I'm driving, the car runs 'fine' up to about 50 mph, any faster than that would make the car stutter badly. I thought it was the MAF, but reading all these posts I think I should be looking somewhere else. I believe it is not the TPS since I had a new one put in not too long ago (also, to double check, I re-installed the previous TPS I had and it made no difference). My mechanic has had the car for a few weeks already and they called me today and told me the it may be the gas pedal. I can hardly believe that is the problem, so I decided to go down there for a look. I insisted that the problem had to be somewhere in the air intake system or with the fuel pump and all. They agreed with me, but then showed me that the car idles perfectly without the pedal attached to it. Of course, since there is not a throttle cable with these new Nissan models, we couldn't manually accelerate the car to check if the engine would stutter at 2500-3000 rpms. They did tell me though that they had taken the pedal appart and messed with the internal parts (springs and such) and that after they they put it back in, they were able to drive it for some time with no problems. I still find it hard to believe that the pedal would be to blame.

Let me know what you guys think or if you're able to temporarily replace the pedal to see what it does. I'm going to try to find one myself to see what happens.

Cheers

Ihenson:

My symptoms weren't exactly like yours but somewhat similar...check it out at the link below...

I also replaced the fuel pump and the dealership got me to replace distributor and wanted to change my entire wiring harness but it ended up being something much smaller...
