Well, my brakes squeal when I slow down. I know that that's brake squeal, but i also her some sort of squeal every now and then when im just turning the car. If im going down a road and i have to take a turn, sometimes i hear a squeal when i turn the wheel, even when im not braking. Any ideas?

And be sure to have the rotors turned. Your rotors are probably glazed a little.

not to be a smartass, but if your brakes are squealing, thats their way of letting you know they need replaceing NOW. Wait a month and you might not have and brake pad left.

mine sqeal too when i slow down, i changed my pads about a month ago, but i think the only reasons are that cuz i didn't get my rotors resurfaced when i changed the pads and also the only time they sqeal is in rain also. doesn't bother me much though. what kinda sqealing sounds does it make?

brake squeal isnt that big of a deal. all it is it the pad going across the rotor. like putting your finger around a wine glass ive heard it been called. its really common, its nothing that is harming the car. if my car was squealing when i was driving but NOT when i was braking i would be in trouble because alot of times brakes let out a squeal when they need to be changed ASAP. mine are just annoying, not serious. i just wanted to make sure that that could be the only thing. they will definately last a month.

Theres a small clip on most brake pads that rides close to the edge of the rotor. When your pads wear down and the pad material gets thinner the clip moves closer to the rotor and eventually touches the edge. It's VERY loud (gets your attention and everyone else around you) and you can hear it regardless if the brakes are being used or not, this is probably the squealing your talking about. However if your pads/rotors are glazed over then it is possible for them to squeak when the pedal is not depressed because the pads ride on the surface of the rotor at low speeds. You can usualy tell if its your pad alarms going off if its a steady loud squeal. If its a soft fluctuating squeak, then chances are your pads or rotors are glazed.

my brakes make a slight squeeling noise when the brakes are applied and i kno the pads are in good condition. but they do not make the squeeling when the brakes are applied pretty hard. if they are glazed, do they have to be resurfaced or will that brake squeak remover stuff work?

Hi,

You most likely need a new Shim Kit for your brakes. The metal piece tends to wear down over time and causes the loud screaching sound you are referring to. The shim kits are around $30 I believe and should always be changed when changing brake pads.

They need to be resurfaced if they're glazed, also helps for warps in the rotor. Resurfaced my front z32s last week, cost me $7.50 a rotor ($15)

It probably has something to do with the power steering. You might have a leak.. and it gets low on fluid. Is your steering pretty stiff? ..and does it get really stiff and squeaky after you drift in parking lots and whatnot? Try filling the reservior with more power steering fluid, that'll be a temporary fix if you have a ps leak.

Glaze on your rotors are a possibility. If they have a slightly blue tint to them then you've found your glaze. Your pads should need replacement if the inner section of the pads are worn down to about 1.0mm of thickness. The shims are a possibility, if the grease between the pad and the shim is gone, then the thin metal shims will vibrate and squeal. It also depends on the pad, if you're running metal based pads, then you'll experience squeal when not braking hard. Check those out.
