Long story short, I used the sohc interior harness, but a dohc chasis, lower, and engine harness on my 89 with a dohc swap. Was pretty sure I had everything wired up correctly...I did what people said with the ecu simply matching the like wires and soldering them on the dohc ecu clip.

Anyways I know I have fuel (smelled it), but when I went to start the car I saw smoke and found this:

Seen here after I cut the melted stuff off:

It's a plug that's taped down to the harness right before the ignition coil...^Here's a picture of it on my buddy's dohc s13. It's the plug you see taped down. It's right by the Power steering reservoir...right before the ignition coil on the harness.

Well I figured I'd just leave those wires cut like that so they wouldn't ground out or whatever the hell happened that made them melt like that and I wasn't getting spark.

So I'm thinking I needed that plug or who knows..it might be something else?

Anyways the question is this:

What is the plug for? (I looked on the FSM wiring diagram and didn't see it...

And do I need a whole new engine harness? I'm sure getting this plug from the stealership would cost about as much as a used harness. Anyways! any ideas??

If that's the plug I'm thinking of it contains a resistor and a capacitor. Something to do with the ignition, hold on... yeah, that's what it is. Give me a bit and I'll post were it is in the wiring diagram.

It's in the foldout section. On the first diagram at the bottom. Between the coolant temp sensor and the power transistor.

So yes, you do need that plug. But I don't know why it destroyed itself.

Gah...that sucks. Guess I'll get another harness...just hope I don't melt the plug on that one or I'll be out like $40
