I have an 05 g35 coupe and want to power it up to the 08's and was looking at some chips to modify air fuel ratios etc. I was looking for posts on the subject with no luck. Anyone with info?

Welcome to NICO!

The G does not have "chips" but there are some programers out there. From what I've read, they really don't give you much in terms of power. The only time you would want to modify AFR is with FI.

Instead, upgrade the intake/exhaust with aftermarket parts for added HP.

Lot's of options, and some will depend on if you have an AUTO or 6MT.

Check out the G-series FAQ (link in my sig) for more info.

I have been doing my homework and following your advice about the increased intake air flow and I have a question. Most of the members list the Motordyne 5/16 spacer and on one of your other posts you mentioned a parts supplier the has a KINETIX V PLENUM.The spacer is $223. and the new plenum top from Kinetix is $259.The new top was designed to give more air to the front cylinders and sounds like more bang for the buck. What do you think is the best. Thanks in advance.

I dont think you can go wrong with the plenum or the spacer. Motordyne makes really good stuff. I bought the exhaust and its fantastic.

Get an intake (JWT or STILLEN) and a spacer or V+ plenum. Then get exhaust. After you have full intake and full exhaust you can have it tuned for A/F ratios and timing and have worthwhile gains. Tuning stock won't change much if at all.

Thanks for the tips, spoken like a true motorhead with knowledge of physics and engineering. I think experience is the best teacher and this club has the most on the planet. I am on a budget and will do one thing at a time and will take pics and post when finished. You guys are great.

Is your car AUTO or a 6MT? If it's a manual, get the Motordyne MREV2 lower plenum ASAP. Easily the best mod for a REVUP engine.

It's an auto. Is it better to get the top and the 5/16 spacer together or is that overkill. Will the bottom still work on the automatic?

Getting the kinetix upper and a spacer is not advised. Plenum volume becomes too high - 30% increase for the kinetix + whatever the spacer adds (5/16" x the area of the plenum).

If you go with the kinetix, be sure to get a newer one. The older design was very flexible and susceptible to thermal expansion which made for possible vacuum leaks. The newer design is advertised to be much stronger and less prone to thermal variation.

Check out the link in Joe's signature for the Mod Database.

"Inexpensive" mods for the 5at (automatic) would be

JWT or Stillen Intake w/ z-tube (350z intake tube)5/16" Spacer (followed by the MREV2)Grounding Kit (see my signature)

From there, everything pretty much takes a big jump in price.

The JWT Intake is the first mod I did and it was great!

Then go for the spacer and then move to the exhaust. that is my .02

Don't worry about the G guys. No one here would point you in the wrong direction! I call it the G family!

Welcome to the G family!

I understood the whole thing and asked you a question about your grounding kits and when I went to hit the post button I hit the ? button and erased my question. Since last night I went through about 50 of your posts on the kit and will send you an email when this is done to order one first before I do any thing else. ps I corrected the other reply. Thanks you are a big help to weekend warriors like myself.
