Yea yea i know, i got to upgrade my system but i love my dreamcast and im not letting go!:)

I was looking for a good racing game for the dreamcast. I picked up Tokyo Extreme Racer. The verdict: Fair. good graphics but not really what i expected. I saw Sega GT on the shelf too. is that any good? any advice?

Not a "gamer", but my kids have Sega Rally 2 & Test Drive LeMans for their DreamCast (I know I'm a horrible father for not buying them a better system), and they're fun. I think they had the Tokyo Extreme Racer, but don't anymore??

Either of those I mentioned are worth spending $10.

I havent seen those on the shelf. Im thinking of trading TER for metropolis street racing, which i read some reviews and people say its great all around. Also im picking up Sega GT since its very close to GT2...so ive heard.

yeah, Genki produced Shutokoh Battle (in 1999) and Shutokoh Battle 2 (in 2000) for the Dreamcast (same as Tokyo Extreme Racing in the US) you get to race on the Tokyo freeway system (Shutokoh).

as for advice...save your pennies and get GT3 on the PS2, best driving sim ever :D

or go all out and spend 50 on Gran Turismo 4 when it comes out.

But to answer your question, Sega GT has a ton of cars, a good amount of nissans, and lots of tuning options. Just the handling is little bit hard to play through, but i thought it was a lot of fun.

Sega GT is really cool, it is just like GT2, but with more car customization. You can actually build the car the way you want it.

Metropolis Street Racing = Renamed to Project Gotham Racing for XBOX

Test Drive Le Mans is pretty good too.

And here's a few games you should consider getting for your kids:

SF Rush 2049Crazy Taxi

They're not sim, but they're very fun to play.

Initial D is also available for the Dreamcast. I can't remember how the game was, though, since I only played it once.

Had my burner not die on me then I'd be able to hook you up with a few games. I have just about every game made for the Dreamcast.

cool thanx, now i know im goind down and trading it for the Sega GT. TSR is a good game but the cars dont have much detail and theres no names mention, but of course you could tell which car is which. i would just like to know that $2000 exhaust in my S14 is an APexi N1 or Nismo or something.

anyone know how metropolis street racing is? also anyone know if the tokyo extreme racing 2 is better or dont waste your money.

Im upgrading to PS2 in a month or so i have to stick by with my DC. Plus used games are hella cheap although some are expensive as hell.

It's a very good game for the dreamcast. In fact, I think it's better than Project Gotham Racing for the XBOX. Link to review

Edit: Go to dccopyworld.com for copying DC Games. It's not hard. It's just like copying a PSX game back in the old days.

My friend has liek two hundred games for the dream cast and no working dream cast. It's not like we would play it anyway. After hitting the X-box, the graphics of the DC aren't worth wasting your time with.

I liked Tokyo extreme, but you said you didnt like it. In my opinion, it was the best the DC had to offer. But like some of the others mentioned Metropolis Street Racing and Test Drive Le Mans was pretty decent.

Dude, hit the pawn shop. I saw a used PS2 for 89 dollars.

You use to could down load the games off of some web site. That's what my computer guy friend did. I aint gotta a clue what site or the programs he was using to rip them. Then we did the burning thing too.

Hell the old play station, install a chip and we just rented games and copied them.

yep exactly i think the DC is a great game system, controllers arent easy to break, games are fun, the system is small enough, everythink about it is great! hehe..and it does not need to be moded!

well i guess coz that's the first game system i got, so i love it till this day!

too bad games are getting harder and harder to find for the little critters, though the controllers seriously cause my ape hands to cramp, they should make a controller the size of the seXBOX's for all the systems....

funny that you say that, when the Xbox came out many people complained that the controller was huge, MS actually had to make it smaller for the Japanese market :D

of all the controllers i've tried (from NES to Xbox) i think the Playstation ones (1&2) are the most comfortable.

nah, xbox type s is where its at. for dreamcast tokyo extreme racer 2 is the best game in my opinion. i think ive beat it about 5 times and have over 20 cars fully hooked up. cant even tell u how many hours ive played it. its very fun. but it was a lot like the regular TXR just better graphics, more cars, and a few other things. i cant really remember how big of a difference there is between 1 and 2 cuz i havent played 1 in well over a year.

Cheat, like everyone else. Wasn't there a cheat code for to get cars or money or some crap. Might be on the game shark.

My brother still has his dreamcast and loves Sega GT. That game and system were the shiznit when they first came out, before the PS2 and XBox.

Still is a great system. I really hated to see them stop making games for it.

ive never cheated for that game. once u unlock the really long "O" section of the track and uve beat just about everyone, start off at the very left side of the map and proceed to the right on the top road. like going around the large "O" section clockwise and race some of the people on the top road on the map (like i described before) even if uve already beat them and the main boss should challenge u after beating one of those guys. he drives a black 240z or 280z i believe. make sure u have an extremly fast car cuz he will be hard to beat.

yea the first time beating him is almost impossible we beat it with a skyline gt-r r34 style hooked up as far as possible and he flew away from us.. but hes so fast and the AI is retarded so he went into an offramp and got stuck there till we won. then u can buy the 280z and its the fastest car in the game costs a good 250,000 tho.. but when u beat the last game save ur game then go to main menu and do quest then do "keep game" and it gives you 1,000,000 CP definatly dont start a new game just do keep game cause it starts u off with all new guys and u get 1 million cp so its the way to go..

I picked up Sega GT for 10 buks at some local shop here. the game realy is good. Its really well set up and design. The graphics arent really what i expected from a 128 bit system. TXR1 had better graphics and but the cars had less details. the courses are really detailed too. The money system is also very generous. Some of the SA class races are hard though, i guess it takes a while to get it all down. things i didnt like... Not that many cars as GT2....WTF, only two domestics.

i really like TXR but i wanna get the the sequel. the only thing i didnt like was there was only one track! im hunting down for the TXR2 now.

yea only one track but u unlock new sections of the track as u race different leaders and once it is all unlocked i think it comes out to about 120 miles worth of track. it takes a good 15 mins to get around the large ring when averaging almost 200 mph. the only thing i could complain about the track would be the walls slowing u down to about 70 mph whenever u touch em and its always night time other than that its a huge map considering when it was made and the system it is on

i need some help....

i got TXR2, man this game is way better than the first. The graphics are great but it kinda freezes up when theres a lot of cars on the screen, anyone else experiance that?

anyways, some of the cars are fuken hard to beat. anyone know any tips or something that could help me out. i looked up some FAQ's but they look outdated and didnt offer much help on playing the game itself.

yes ive experianced the slight freezing in the game, its not that bad tho and doesnt happen all that often. the way i would beat the really hard guys is keep on racing them till u get to the section of road that has 2 dividers in the road, if u are near him he will most likely get confused and hit the center divider which is pretty much an instant death.
